Ascot 1.50 BetfredTV Pat Eddery Stakes (Listed) 7f

A really exciting afternoon live on ITV Racing this afternoon and we kick off with a Notebook runner in TWAASOL for Owen Burrows and Martin Harley. This colt by Adaay is unbeaten in two runs to date and this step up to 7f looks sure to suit so there could easily be further improvement to come. This does look competitive but I have doubts over one or two of his rivals seeing this out and I think the selection will be strong at the death.

Saeiqa built on his debut promise when third in the Coventry Stakes here last month and could emerge as the main danger if stepping forward from that again. Saint Lawrence is bang there on speed figures so can’t be completely ignored either.

York 2.05 Skybet Britain’s Most Popular Online Bookmaker EBF Stallions Fillies’ Handicap (Class 3) 1m2f56y

A competitive handicap as always here at York but we think the favourite (at the time of writing) AWARD SCHEME may have a lot to come. After 3 third placed finishes she was stepped up to today’s trip and pulled away from what looks a decent horse in Arriviste to win. Based on that performance an 8lb penalty shouldn’t be enough to stop her.

Earth And Sky is the main danger to the selection after 2 decent runs at shorter trips. The step back up to a mile and a quarter should be spot on for her so she looks good value to run into a place.

Ascot 2.25 Moet & Chandon International Stakes (Heritage Handicap) 7f

Raising Sand won this last year for Jamie Osborne and Nicola Currie. It’s always competitive and it doesn’t look any easier this season. EBURY ticks plenty of boxes for me. He is lightly raced for his age and likes it here. He scored over a mile in September last year and caught the eye running a big race when sixth in the Buckingham Palace. He actually won his side so finished in the best possible position he could given the track bias. 7/1 looks a cracking each way price as I can’t see how he doesn’t go close.

Blue Mist finished third in this last year and looked unlucky in the Silver Wokingham here last time. I think he’ll run well but at the odds looks opposable. From experience you’ll go skint backing horses of his profile in races like this. Chiefofchiefs remains unexposed over this trip and might be worth a saver as I can see him running better than his odds suggests.

Last years winner of this race ELARQAM aims to make it back-to-back wins and back down to 10 furlongs should be spot on. He ran really well to just lose out to the impressive Lord North in the Brigadier Gerard at Sandown who has gone on and made that form look very good. He didn’t seem to get the mile and a half in the Hardwicke Stakes and will be hard to beat back at this trip.

If Telecaster is back to his level of form when winning the Dante he can give our selection a good race, the win last time in France was good but will need to step-up a bit on that.

Elarqam 9/4

Ascot 3.00 Betfred ‘Nifty Fifty’ Handicap (Class 2) 1m (Straight)

Kingman colt Tsar won well at Yarmouth on handicap debut and looks open to further improvement so a 6lb rise is fair enough. Should go well but has been well found at the top of the market and there may well be value elsewhere. JOHAN was notably strong at the finish when making a winning handicap debut at Newbury and even with an 8lb rise in a better race I think he might be worth chancing to follow up. He is improving all the time and has won three of his last four now. He is likely to push forward under Tom Marquand and may well take a bit of pegging back. I can see him going off shorter than 9/2 come post time.

The fav is obviously a threat but so is Evening Sun. This colt by Muhaarar justified cramped odds at Newmarket and has potential now tackling handicap company. Ryan Moore takes over in the saddle too.

Taking a chance on the old boy GREENSIDE in this race as his last couple of runs have been encouraging. He ran really well at Royal Ascot but stepped up on that at Haydock when well found in the market. He was running on at the line and this mile should be just what he needs now. The 3lb rise does require a career best but that last run suggests he could well have it in him.

Hartswood is getting weight all round being a 3 year-old and his form looks solid with a lot more to come and will be the main danger in the race. If you’re looking for one at an even bigger price than the selection Al Erayg has some strong form in the book so could go well but will need to be at his best to defy his current mark.

Ascot 3.35 King George VI And Queen Elizabeth Qipco Stakes (Group 1) 1m3f211y

Just the three runners for this years renewal of the King George and however you try and break it down ENABLE looks the one to beat. Anthony Van Dyck is a late non runner due to the ground so it leaves just Japan and Sovereign in opposition. The former should take them along with Frankie just tracking in second. I expect her to pick him up fairly easily before holding Japan at bay.

It’s a shame we don’t have a competitive field this year but make no mistake the wonder mare is looking to create history with a third win in the race so it will be an exciting watch nevertheless.

One of the tougher races to call on ITV Racing today but we will take a chance on ABATE who has been running well since the return of racing with a win a Thirsk before a decent 2nd at Hamilton only just losing out. He is very quick and will be on the speed throughout and it could just workout well for him here at York.

Mutabaahy will like the speed of the race and will come with a challenge late, the only thing that puts me off him is that his best is on the all weather. Victory Angel will also have his supporters as he is probably the main beneficiary if the pace does collapse.

My best Value selection of the weekend runs in this race in the shape of MASCAT for Ralph Beckett. This colt looked really promising as a 2yo chasing home Palace Pier on debut before improving to win over a mile at Newmarket beating some smart horses. He has failed to fire so far this season finishing down the field behind Russian Emperor at Royal Ascot and then only fourth in a competitive handicap at Newmarket last time. I can see him building on that last run again though and a mark of 90 looks within reach. This is competitive but if he improves he will be bang there and 7/1 looks a lovely each way price. I think this trip will suit him well in time as he stays well being a half-brother to William Of Orange. He definitely still has potential and I’m really keen on his chances in this field.

Night Of Thunder colt Media Storm has more to offer now handicapping so is feared as is Mankayan who has improved for the fitting of a visor. A 6lb rise demands more though so it will be interesting to see how he goes.
