Sandown 1.50 My Oddsboost On Betfair Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (Class 3) 2m4f
A decent race for our first live race of the Tingle Creek meeting and there are a few good sorts in here. I am siding with MORNING VICAR who impressed with a nice win at Newbury where he looked to have a bit left in the tank. He jumped right that day as well so should improve further at Sandown and I don’t think 6lb will be enough to stop him going close at a decent price.
Before Midnight is better off at the weights but may be seen at better effect over further and the main danger could easily be Funambule Sivola. He was really impressive when winning over 2 miles and the 7lb penalty wouldn’t be a worry but he does has to prove himself at this trip which is why he wasn’t the selection.

I’ve always been a big fan of THE BIG BREAKAWAY so it was great to see him make a perfect start over fences winning by 10 lengths at Cheltenham last month. It didn’t entirely go to plan as he did hit a bit of a flat spot around halfway before refocussing and getting the job done. I just think he dossed a bit as they never went any sort of a gallop and he strikes me as a horse that will relish a target to aim at. When he was good he was really good and you’d have to be taken with that initial effort. He can only improve for the experience and this looks another stepping stone for him before going onto better things. He isn’t a betting proposition but it will be a joy to watch him ping these fences.
Bold Plan did well over hurdles beating horses like Southfield Stone and Whoshotthesheriff but did put in an underwhelming run on chase debut at Uttoxeter in October. He wasn’t given a hard time though and can do better as he gains experience so should chase the favourite home.
Sandown 2.25 Ballymore Winter Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2) 2m4f
A race in which Paul Nicholls and Alan King have a good record in and they do have fair chances to add another renewal to their list of wins but I like STAR GATE here for Evan Williams. He still looked a little green when winning his maiden quite easily and jumped boldly. He would have learnt a lot from that and I expect a big showing from him again. He showed a good change of gear in soft ground last time so conditions certainly won’t bother him.
Valleres has solid form to his name and Sending Love recorded a nice win at Ffos Las last time but both hit hurdles so would favour the selection over those on the jumping side for sure. He looks to have the most potential of these.

I know Oliver Sherwood has always thought a lot of SEVARANO so it was good to see him win impressively on chase debut at Sandown last month. He did everything you’d want to see a horse do tackling fences for the first time and showed a great attitude to stay on strongly and get there in the final strides. He jumped accurately throughout and was always racing with enthusiasm under Brendan Powell. This is tougher again but I think he’s one to keep firmly on side and I’ll be disappointed if he can’t make it 2-2 in this sphere here.
Molineaux shaped as though he needed the run when third to Amoola Gold at Ascot on return in October and should get competitive. I think he’s vulnerable for win purposes though and so Limited Reserve may step forward as the main danger. This horse loves it when the mud is flying and was given a big ask at Fakenham last time. Can do better now.
Sandown 3.00 Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle (Class 2) 2m71/2f
It’s a shame Kilconny Bridge isn’t running as she looks one to follow this season but their are still plenty of decent horses due to line-up. With plenty of rain around ILLEGAL MODEL looks good at a fair each-way price at the time of writing. His run when finishing third at Uttoxeter looks like a fair effort and he should come on for the run. He looks like a proper stayer and softer conditions round here at this trip should really suit.
The dangers look to be Espion and Storm Arising who both have very good recent form and the latter especially will like the forecast conditions. Farrants Way isn’t the most straightforward but could also have a say albeit lacking experience.
Exeter 3.15 Close Brothers Handicap Chase (Class 3) 3m61/2f
I’m going to chance last year’s second PETITE POWER to go one better here for Fergal O’Brien. This 11yo was beaten just a neck off this mark last year and while he isn’t coming into it in the same form he still has a big performance in him and plenty of these have questions to answer. He will be given a patient ride before looking to pick these off and is just too tempting around the 9/1 mark.
Lithic is favourite but he is yet to even win over the larger obstacles so that says a lot about the race. He again travelled up well at Wetherby but was outbattled in the finish and should find one or two too good again. Bermeo has been in great form but a mark of 115 looks tough. Perhaps Dawson City will step forward as the main danger.

Not the best race on paper but I do think WHITEHOTCHILLIFILI could be better than this mark even off top weight. She would have needed her run in Listed company at Wetherby and this looks like a better race for her. If showing the form of last season she should be more than competitive in this.
She is giving weight away to some good horses in Vegas Blue and Bit On The Side and they will be the main dangers to her.
