NAP – Best selection of the evening
THE NAP (BEST BET) RUNS AT AINTREE ON SATURDAY AS WE LOOK TO BOUNCE BACK!
Aintree 2.40 Santini (6/4)
Top-class chaser who continued his upward progression with a strong late run to finish second in the Gold Cup at Cheltenham; goes well fresh and looks the one they all have to beat here; big season ahead.
Native River won this last year but the race somewhat fell apart and he isn’t getting any younger. He should run his race and is probably the danger but this sort of test might just be on the sharp side for him nowadays. SANTINI has to be my selection. He ran a cracker in the big one in March, beaten just a neck by Al Boum Photo and given he goes well fresh this looks a good starting point for him. He’ll be hoping to have an uninterrupted prep for the Gold Cup this year and will be a major contender if he does. He has the best recent form on offer and is chasing a hat-trick. Fordon is respected but he does have a bit to find with the top 2 in the betting and could run his race without being good enough.
NB – Second best selection of the day
THE NEXT BEST (SECOND BEST BET) RUNS AT SANDOWN ON SATURDAY AFTERNOON!
Sandown 3.00 Cloudy Glen (15/8)
Very much back to form winning stylishly at Fontwell 3 weeks ago; 11lb rise looks justified and looks a danger to all under a likely patient ride again; big chance of following up if jumping holds up.
There was a lot to like about the way CLOUDY GLEN won the Southern National on return. He beat a fair yardstick in Christmas In April and travelled like a dream before quickly asserting over the last. Classic Ben is the pace angle in here and I wouldn’t want to see them give him too much rope but in an ideal world it will help the selection settle in rear before picking them off one by one. Crosspark has done little wrong in two starts back this term and is a strong staying type so could emerge as the main danger to the selection if in the same form. Doing Fine was third to the selection last time but is 12lb better off so is entitled to close that gap but has his work cutout to reverse it you’d think.
