Punchestown 1.10 Voler La Vedette Mares Novice Hurdle (Listed Race) 2m4f

Only the second running of this race and it looks like it will be dominated by an odds-on favourite again. Minella Melody won it last year at skinny odds for Henry De Bromhead. The favourite this year is FINEST EVERMORE who has won all 3 of her races since moving to Willie Mullins with ease. She looks to be getting better with every run and I can’t see her getting beaten in this.

Without the favourite this is wide open, Global Equity would be my pick for the forecast if improving for her comeback run and Boher Cailin shouldn’t be far away either if she improves again.

Cork 1.25 Kerry Group Hilly Way Chase (Grade 2) 2m1/2f

Looking forward to seeing CHACUN POUR SOI back in action. This promising chaser was last seen putting Min in his place in a Grade 1 at Leopardstown and has looked hugely exciting in just a handful of starts over fences. He clearly isn’t the easiest to train and injury has prevented him from reaching the very top so hopefully he can take this on return before going onto better things. This is certainly not easy with the likes of Cash Back and Chosen Mate in here but if he is anywhere near his best he should have too much class for them.

Cash Back is probably the danger as he certainly has an engine but he can put in some hairy leaps and would need to jump probably better than he ever has to even shake up the favourite.

Punchestown 1.40 John Durkan Memorial Punchestown Chase (Grade 1) 2m41/2f

MIN is bidding for a hat-trick in this race and looks to have a great chance again. He was last seen winning the Ryanair at Cheltenham and if anywhere near that level he will take a lot of beating. I am not worried by the lack of a prep run as he has won this both with and without a prep run and with the yard in great form he looks the right favourite even though it’s an attractive looking race on paper.

It won’t be a gimme though with plenty of class in the field but I do feel quite a few are better over further and if Samcro improves for the run he could end up being the main danger. Allaho was last seen finishing third in a dramatic RSA behind Champ and Minella Indo and is also worthy of plenty of respect.

The Value Tip has been in great form lately with THREE WINNERS FROM OUR LAST FOUR and it won again yesterday as Fern Hill battled back bravely to get on top near the finish. This is one of our best bets of the day and is not to be missed.

A huge field for this competitive handicap and the trends suggest looking for something in the bottom half of the weights. ABOVE THE CITY off a mark of 102 does look fair and he could be better than that mark based on his run two starts back at Navan. It looks a good time to step him back up in trip and he looks a good each-way bet at the lower end of the weights.

Some of the runners at the top of the weights have fair chances with the main danger looking like Broomfields Jeremy who has been running really well. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Rightplacerighttime does better that his last run at a bigger price. The Great White is another one who shouldn’t be too far away.

Cork 2.30 Kerry Group Stayers Novice Hurdle (Grade 3) 3m

The market strength is notable here behind SAYCE GOLD and she looked a fine prospect striding clear to win by 8 lengths on hurdles debut at Thurles last month. She did that head in chest and she looks far from the finished article so with further improvement a near certainty she has to be the selection here. It’s a good race but I think she has the most potential of these and she looks ready for the step up to Graded company.

Darrens Hope impressed me beating Ragnar Lodbrok by a street here last time and has to be respected off that form as I do think the latter is a decent horse. They both shouldn’t be too far away but I think the favourite could be a bit special.

Kelso 2.45 Mrs Ivan Straker Paris Pike Novices’ Chase (Class 3) 2m71/2f

Some decent chasers have come through this novice event in the past and a few of these look quite good. I like MAHLERVOUS who put some good efforts together at shorter trips and could improve for the step-up to just shy of 3 miles. The time figure of his 2nd at Sandown makes it look like solid form and he could still have a bit more to come.

I would love Mighty Thunder to win this as he stays and is on a hat-trick but the double penalty is a lot to giveaway but he may still run a big race and is the main danger to the selection. Better was expected of Elf De Re last time so he has a bit to prove at present.

Cork 3.00 Low Low Handicap Hurdle 2m

He is quite short in the market but even still PIKE COUNTY is taken to gain a bit of compensation here. This son of Baltic King was travelling best of all when coming down at the last at Navan and looks worth chancing to bounce back. He is up 2lb but Simon Torrens’ claim negates that and he has ran well at this track before so should be suited by this test.

Charlie Siringo is the threat as he wasn’t disgraced when fourth at Punchestown and looks most likely to give another good account off the back of that. At an even bigger price The Little Yank might be a bit of value to run on into a place.

Kelso 3.20 Persimmon Homes Scottish Borders National Handicap Chase (Class 3) 4m1/2f

In a race as competitive as this I usually try and get the favourite beat but DUC DE GRISSAY ticks a lot of boxes here and at around 11/2 I actually think he is a decent price. He was back from a 216-day break to stay on well into fourth at Sedgefield and off a 1lb lower mark he looks a massive player here. He is a staying chaser on the up and this sort of test is what he has always looked like he’d relish. That win here back in March looked progressive so with a run under his belt he looks sure to go close.

Just Your Type is one prominent in the market that I’m not too keen on as he is up 5lb and I’m not entirely convinced this trip is what he wants. Bigirononhiship would be a bigger danger for me. The latter signed off last campaign with a convincing win in this race and even 10lb higher this time around could put up a good fist of it.

Punchestown 3.40 Old House, Kill (Pro/Am) Flat Race 2m1/2f

The final race on the card at Punchestown and with just one run to go on it is a tough call. Jody Ted ran okay in a novice hurdle to finish fourth and should be thereabouts in bumper company but I think Willie Mullins could have a good prospect in ASLUKWOODHAVIT. He is related to some decent winners and on paper looks one of the best in the race which is also reflected in the betting.

Champagne Sparkles cost €100,000 and has the dangerous combo of Elliot and Codd so would have to keep an eye on it in the market. He looks the obvious one to give the favourite a race as it’s 7/1 bar the pair.
