Doncaster 1.30 Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Lightning Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) 2m1/2f

A race Nicky Henderson has a great record in and his chances of landing another renewal look promising with the classy SHISHKIN representing him. He is rightly an odds-on shot after winning his last 6 including his first two chase starts where he won by a combined 36 lengths. He is rated 13lb better than anything in the field and will be so hard to beat.

With the others not looking to be at the same level as the selection Eldorado Allen is my pick to follow him home with his form at this level looking solid. Cheddleton is already a better chaser than hurdler and should also have more to come so won’t be far away either.

Doncaster 2.05 Irish Thoroughbred Marketing Yorkshire Rose Mares’ Hurdle (Grade 2) 2m1/2f

This race always attracts a small field but it does look as competitive as ever. I am going to give MARIE’S ROCK another chance after losing her unbeaten record on seasonal reappearance. There was plenty of excuses for the 7th that day with it being her first run for 334 days after having a wind operation and the yard did have a bug going round with plenty of their high profile runners not running to the level you would expect. She should be much better for that run and the softer ground will see her at her best and I expect her to be bang there.

Floressa is the main danger with some top form at this level but she does have to give weight to the whole field. Phil Kirby is on a hat-trick in this race so it wouldn’t be a total surprise if Rayna’s World ran a big race but would need to improve a bit to do so.

Lingfield 2.20 (AW) Play 4 To Win At Betway Handicap (Class 5) 6f

This looks all about POWER OVER ME as he bids to land the four-timer. This son of Ivawood has done nothing but improve in recent starts and produced a career best when running on strongly to win over C&D again last weekend. He did that with a bit to spare and with the promise of more to come turned out quickly under a penalty he can go in again.

Global Prospector is likely to take them along but I don’t expect the selection to be too far away and he should secure a good position tucked in off the pace early. In terms of a danger then it’s probably Swiss Pride. He also brings winning form to the table but is up 2lb and is bumping into an unexposed rival.

Doncaster 2.40 Albert Bartlett River Don Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2) 3m1/2f

This Albert Bartlett trial has attracted a far bigger field than most years but I can’t see many of these actually running in the race at Cheltenham without a lot of improvement. The one I quite like is ASK A HONEY BEE who appeals at an each way price after a good effort at Cheltenham last time. I marked that performance up as he was at the front throughout and was the only one who didn’t drop away with the race favouring horses that were held up. I think at this flatter track he will fair better and I expect another big run at a decent price.

Pats Fancy is the danger as he finished in front of the selection that day but the race was a bit more suited to his run style. Ashtown Lad was the one I fancied for that race but didn’t seem to be at his best so it wouldn’t surprise me if he was to bounce back.

Lingfield 2.55 (AW) Betway Handicap (Class 3) 1m4f

The money was down for Pirate King last time but he was readily brushed aside and even though this looks a good opportunity on paper I’m keen to take him on at a short price. He’s won three times over this C&D but he just didn’t convince the last day and he’s going to need to improve on that to have a say, not for me. RENARDEAU was beaten less than a length at Kempton when last seen and goes particularly well at this track with his form reading 11212. He looks the value bet against these.

Pour Moi gelding Hydroplane was below form when last seen at Doncaster competing over hurdles and has to be respected back on the Flat off a mark of 78. He’s the one I think should probably be favourite.

Doncaster 3.15 Sky Bet Handicap Chase (Listed Race) (Class 1) 3m

This looks like a top quality handicap and a very competitive one at that. CAP DU NORD has been very impressive this season in handicaps and looks like he still has more to come. He won easily at Newbury before finishing second behind the exciting Royale Pagaille at Kempton. That Kempton form looks amongst the best around with the winner cruising to win the Peter Marsh last weekend and they finished well clear of the third that day. I don’t think the 6lb penalty will be enough to stop him in this.

Canelo, Aye Right and Give Me A Copper are the main dangers but I think the selection could be a fair bit better than his mark if his last run is anything to go on.

Lingfield 3.30 (AW) Bombardier British-Hopped Amber Beer Handicap (Class 3) 1m

Catch My Breath has impressed lately winning his last two but he is up in class here and will need to find more to complete the hat-trick. I wouldn’t put it past him but at 7/4 (11/8 in some places) I’d rather not pay to find out. GOLDEN FORCE also won last time, running on strongly at the finish despite racing keenly throughout. He is up just 2lb for that and can remain mega competitive here.

Masked Identity is the one they’re backing in the market but he doesn’t find a great deal in a finish so despite being back down to his last winning mark it isn’t enough to tempt me in. I can see him running well without winning.
