NAP – Best selection of the evening
THE NAP (BEST BET) WON YESTERDAY AND RUNS AT AINTREE ON SATURDAY!
Aintree 2.25 My Drogo (7/4)
Unbeaten over hurdles and created a big impression striding away to win at Kelso last time, conceding weight all round; sets the standard and sure to keep improving; yard think a lot of him and should have too much for these.
I’ve been waiting all week to see MY DROGO and I’m surprised he opened as big as he did. I know this is the toughest opposition he would have faced but he couldn’t really have been any more impressive last time and the step up a couple of furlongs in trip is only going to help him. He has a relentless way of going and I’ll be disappointed if he doesn’t remain unbeaten over hurdles. He has potential to be a real top-class horse and has already been murmured as a potential Gold Cup horse for the future and he hasn’t even jumped a fence yet. Ballyadam is a very smart horse and he will take advantage of any chinks in the fav’s armour. Dream Deal has been on a serious run so is also respected.
NB – Second best selection of the day
THE NEXT BEST (SECOND BEST BET) ALSO RUNS AT AINTREE ON SATURDAY!
Aintree 3.35 Thyme Hill (5/2)
Progressive over hurdles last season running a big race in the Albert Bartlett when fourth to Monkfish; took the scalp of Paisley Park on return before looking a bit unlucky when touched off by that rival last time; capable of better yet.
Flooring Porter did run out a very convincing winner of the Stayers at Cheltenham but it would have been interesting to see how THYME HILL would have fared. It might have actually helped him to miss that engagement and if all is sound following that slight knock he should take an awful lot of beating here. He still has tons of potential and I expect him to get back on track here with Tom O’Brien taking over in the saddle. Paisley Park certainly wasn’t disgraced in the Stayers finishing third but there’s no doubt that would have taken a fair bit out of him and the selection comes here a much fresher horse. Roksana didn’t really threaten in the Mares’ and needs more on that form to have a say.
