Haydock 1.45 Betway Handicap (Class 3) 6f

An open renewal as ever and COLD STARE looks to have a decent each way chance. His trainer David O’Meara has won the last two renewals and his runner this year has a decent chance in what look like ideal conditions. He won this race in 2019 in softer conditions and seems to be in better form than he was coming into that race and looks a player at a double-figure price.

The main danger looks to be Bielsa who is an ultra-consistent performer in handicaps and off a mark of 95 he should be in the mix. The other runner who could pose a threat and who I expect to finish in the frame is Concierge who is only 4lb higher than his win at Newbury last time.

Beverley 2.00 Hilary Needler Trophy Fillies’ Conditions Stakes (Class 2) 5f

Liberty Beach won this last year so it is usually won by a smart filly. NOTEBOOK fits the bill this year having pushed subsequent National Stakes winner Ebro River to within a length on debut at Doncaster. The latter won that Listed event in the style of an exciting horse so the form has been strongly franked. She ran green in the early stages before the penny dropped late so with improvement a near certainty it’s going to take a good one to stop her going one better here.

Hester Prynne made a winning start over C&D and has to be feared off the back of that. Lady Ayresome also brings winning form to the table and has to enter calculations. I think the selection could have the most potential of these though and she is already being well backed in the market.

Haydock 2.20 Betway Achilles Stakes (Listed Race) 5f

This race was run at Doncaster last year with El Astronaute taking that renewal and he is the joint favourite for this at the time of writing but I am going to oppose him as I have a suspicion he is at his best fresh. ALJADY drops down to this from Group 3 level and that contest where he was only 3 lengths back looks a top race for the level and he has a decent chance at Listed level. He has no problem on softer ground with his better runs coming on it and having already won at Haydock I thought he would be a bit closer to the top of the market.

Motagally comes here from the handicap route and could well still be improving but has it do on his first run of the season. King’s Lynn was behind El Astronaute at Chester and I can’t really see that form being reversed.

Chester 2.40 tote+ Pays You More At tote.co.uk Handicap (Class 2) 71/2f

At first glance this looks a wide open renewal but the more I looked at it the more I liked VALUE TIP and he looks a really strong play at 9/2. He finished last on return at Haydock but looked in desperate need of the outing and shaped much better over this course and distance when sixth to Grove Ferry at the start of the month. He stepped forward again to win with plenty up his sleeve at Thirsk last time and looks spot on for this now. He is still 5lb below his highest winning mark so certainly has handicap scope from that perspective. He cruised into contention last time and if he gets a good position this past C&D winner is going to take an awful lot of beating.

The hat-trick seeking Boardman impressed last time and while he is a horse I do like this is much tougher especially under a 10lb rise. He will need to take another step forward to win this and I’m not sure this track is ideal (only ran once here finishing 5th of 12). King’s Knight has been running well and looks one of the main threats to the selection. Ejtilaab completes the shortlist.

Haydock 2.55 Betway Pinnacle Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies & Mares) 1m4f

I am gutted Alpinista isn’t lining up for this as she would have been tough to beat and added a touch more class to the field. This in my opinion leaves ORIENTAL MYSTIQUE as the one to beat. She ran well behind Alpinista on her comeback run at Goodwood and that suggested she would come on plenty for the run. If stepping forward again from that she will serve it up to the favourite Cabaletta.

Cabaletta is the main danger but seems to find it hard to get her head in front and based on her run in this last year (12 lengths fourth) I am happy to take her on with a horse I think is improving plenty. La Lune made a winning return at Nottingham but is likely to find this tougher in better company.

Beverley 3.10 bet365 Continental Two Year Old Trophy Conditions Stakes (Class 2) 5f

The Gatekeeper made a winning start but hasn’t really gone on since beaten by Chipotle who has subsequently disappointed in the National Stakes and then he looked awkward at Newbury. On that evidence I’m going to take a chance on TIPPERARY SUNSET. This colt made a bright start winning on debut beating Ryan’s Party and with further improvement I think he can make it 2 from 2. The latter is favourite which I’m quite surprised at but I do think the pair will fight it out.

Straits Of Moyle is by Prince Of Lir and makes his debut but he’ll need to be plenty forward to trouble the market principals. Mercurial and Robjon both need to find more to figure at this higher level.

Haydock 3.30 Betway John Of Gaunt Stakes (Group 3) 7f

Like many I am pleased to see SAFE VOYAGE back down to 7 furlongs after two poor runs in Group 1s up at a mile. This is the perfect race to get him back to winning ways as he won it in 2019 and on his day he is a class above this level. He won a couple of Group 2s last year and if running to that level he shouldn’t be beaten in this race. 4/1 looks appealing and I expect him to go off a bit shorter come post time.

With Thanks is the main danger as she is clearly stepping forward with every run but without a run she is going have to be something special to beat the selection on what we know he is capable of. River Nymph has put in some good performances and times to back that up at handicap level and it wouldn’t surprise me if he ran a big race at an each way price.

Beverley 3.45 bet365 Handicap (Class 3) 71/2f

I’m keen to chance QUEEN’S SARGENT here for Kevin Ryan at a double-figure price. This horse won over C&D last season and he has been running well this term winning at Catterick last month. Even his efforts in defeat read well on the clock and I think if things drop right here he can go close at a very appealing price. He was fourth to Another Batt at Thirsk last time and I think that horse has a huge chance at Chester earlier this afternoon. He fared best of those held up the last day so if this sets up for the closers I’m not sure anything will be finishing as good. Definitely worth chancing!

Sibaaq could obviously be the class-act in the field having put in a career best over C&D on return despite being slowly away. A 4lb rise looks fair and I can see him being popular. Give It Some Teddy was a good fourth at Carlisle and also looks to have strong each way claims. Cassy O was expected to run better last time but wouldn’t be entirely out of it if managing to bounce back.

It’s another busy day on ITV Racing on Saturday and we have included a Trixie which includes 3 of our best bets this afternoon. If 2/3 win we should lock in some good profit.
