Newbury 1.50 bet365 Stakes (The Steventon Stakes) (Listed Race) Class 1 1m2f

This looks like a really competitive renewal with it 4/1 the field at the time of writing. 3 year olds do quite well in this race with the allowance and I think the two 3 year olds in this will fair very well. DERAB is a horse I really like and his form behind Snow Lantern and St Mark’s Basilica looks top class now and with natural improvement he will be bang there. His run in the French Derby was very good even finishing sixth and at this level on better ground he looks a fair price.

Movin Time is the other 3 year old in the race even though he had a blip in the Hampton Court at Royal Ascot he did get bumped that day and I wouldn’t be surprised if he bounced back here. The main danger to them both is Real World who was so impressive in the Hunt Cup over a mile. The only worry for him is back over this trip he hasn’t ran to that level before so has a bit to prove in that respect.

Market Rasen 2.05 Betway Summer Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) Class 2 2m1/2f

I think the market has this spot on as the three most likely winners fill the top 3 spots. I like CAMPROND following his romp over C&D last month. He was sent off a very skinny price but got the job done effortlessly and given the strength of his previous form he should take all the beating off a mark of 134 back into handicap company. He should get a nice toe in and I think he has more to offer yet so it’s no surprise to see him strong in the market.

Hooper made it 5 wins in a row at Stratford last month and is clearly thriving but this is tougher and while he is respected he is going to need to find more off a mark of 139 now. Likely to be involved though. Hang In There might be a greater danger having done it nicely at Stratford last time and positive tactics could see him go well for a long way. The mare Voice Of Calm looks best of the rest.

Newbury 2.25 Bahrain Turf Series Handicap Class 2 2m1/2f

Only the fourth running of this race so not many trends to go on. One I do like at a price is MILDENBERGER who is a regular in these staying Flat races and has dropped down the handicap to a mark which I think he can take advantage of. He wasn’t great in a Listed event at Sandown last time but if running to the level of his Northumberland Plate run off this 5lb lower mark he could prove a massive price with Ben Curtis in the saddle.

The obvious danger and the favourite is Zeeband who is improving all the time with a string of cracking efforts. His latest win over this trip looked like he improved for it and may be capable of carrying more than the extra 8lb he has been given. He is a 5/2 shot at the time of writing which is fair but I am more than happy with the selection at a much bigger price.

Market Rasen 2.40 Betway Summer Plate Handicap Chase (Grade 3) (GBB Race) Class 1 2m51/2f

I know it’s another horse at the top of the market at Market Rasen today but I can’t be against CAPTAIN TOM CAT as he looks to make it a perfect 4 from 4 over fences. He races with so much enthusiasm and put in his best round of jumping to date at Worcester last month. A mark of 147 obviously tests him now in better company but I think he is an exciting chaser who should run huge again under Sam Twistor-Davies. Given the size of the field it will be interesting to see if they go forward as that could be the only negative if he does too much early but the way he has been progressing I see him as the most likely winner.

Solomon Grey unseated at Uttoxeter last time but was in the process of running well again and the cheekpieces are back on which should help him focus. He looks one of the dangers as the market is suggesting. Fire Away is on a real roll too so I think at a bigger price he is definitely of interest again and might be worth a saver.

Newbury 3.00 bet365 Hackwood Stakes (Group 3) Class 1 6f

Much smaller field than usual for the Hackwood Stakes and it is DILIGENT HARRY for us again. We fancied him to win the Chipchase Stakes at Newcastle but was alone down the centre that day and did really well to finish as close to Chil Chil as he did. This should set-up a lot better for Clive Cox’s improving 3 year old and he could take some beating if in the same form. The only question mark is it is his first run on turf but he could be even better on it and I’m willing to take a chance at the odds.

Last year’s winner Tabdeed looks to have targeted this race again after having just one run this season to prepare for it behind Diligent Harry at Newcastle last month. He is likely to strip fitter for that and will give the selection a good run for his money but he does have to give him 5lb which could be massive at the business end. King’s Lynn could also have a say if avoiding trouble.

Market Rasen 3.10 Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap Hurdle Class 2 2m7f

I’m struggling to look past GIOVANNI CHANGE here and I’ll be surprised if he is still 3/1 come post time as I think he is by far and away the most likely winner of this. His jumping can let him down sometimes but he clearly has a big engine and he was given a spin on the Flat last month to get him ready for this. Prior to that he chased home Proschema at Aintree and had won his last two before that so comes here at the top of his game. A reproduction of any of those 3 runs would see him go close under Jamie Hamilton. He looks the most likely leader in this field too so if he gets into a nice rhythm up top he might not come back to them.

Taste The Fear has recent form figures of 3212 over hurdles and was hampered when going down less than a length at Worcester last time so definitely looks the danger. The Distant Lady won at Newton Abbot last time but this is tougher. Breaking Waves is capable but is hard to catch right and isn’t certain to back up that latest win.

Curragh 3.25 Juddmonte Irish Oaks (Group 1) (Fillies) 1m4f

A race that obviously revolves around Snowfall who was such an impressive winner of the Oaks at Epsom when last seen. She should take all the beating but there is little value in her price and I can see American Pharaoh filly NICEST running a big race for Donnacha O’Brien. She has been gradually progressing and I thought she did well of those that raced prominently at Royal Ascot in the Ribblesdale. That was her first try over this trip and with more to come she could improve enough to make a race of it. She is around 10/1 at the time of writing so you could either back her each way or without the fav where she is a 5/2 shot.

Divinely ran well when third to Snowfall in the Oaks and might close that gap slightly but she was still behind Nicest at Ascot last time so has enough to find to grab second spot. Willow was poor at Epsom where I thought she’d run better but did bounce back quickly to win at Naas and may have gone under the radar a bit. Hard to see anything else getting involved.

Newbury 3.40 Weatherbys Super Sprint Stakes (GBB Race) Class 2 5f

Not the strongest Super Spirit we have seen so there are a few standouts including CHIPOTLE. We tipped him to win at Royal Ascot in the Windsor Castle Stakes which was a very impressive performance winning by over 2 lengths on the far side of the track which didn’t favour that many throughout the week. He can be marked up for the run and I can see him making it 4 wins from 5 runs this season on Saturday.

Chipotle is well clear on ratings with Vintage Clouds who looks the main danger. He ran a massive race in the Coventry and gets an important 3lb from the selection. They are both drawn high which has been good over the years and it should be between the two unless something improves substantially from what we have seen already.
