Newmarket 6.40 Laguna Veneta (7/4)
New Bay filly who caught the eye finishing third at Windsor in a race that has worked out well and improved to quicken away at Leicester; narrowly touched off at Bath and third has won to frank the form; sure to go well.
Eve Johnson Houghton looks to have found a good opening for LAGUNA VENETA to return to the winners enclosure. She won impressively at Leicester last month and was only narrowly touched off at Bath last time. She just looked to do a bit too much in the early stages of that race but rallied well when headed and was only actually beaten a neck in the end. The third Aurora Papillon won her next start at Chepstow so the form has substance. She is up just 1lb and is taken to confirm that Leicester form with Punda Maria who is second favourite in here. She has been beaten at Chelmsford since but is better than what she showed there. Control best of the rest but definitely needs to improve.

Ascot 3.40 The Whipmaster (7/4)
Relentless improvement in recent starts winning impressively under just hands and heels at Windsor last month to complete the four-timer; further 6lb rise demands more but ceiling not reached yet; go close again.
This is a good race but I’m struggling to get away from the likeable THE WHIPMASTER for Gary Moore. This 4yo chestnut continues to evade the handicapper and merely had to be pushed out to win handsomely at Windsor last month. He should relish this step up to a mile and a half and I can see this track suiting as well so he is hard to pick holes in. Juan De Montalban is a nice horse as well and he was very impressive over C&D on penultimate start. He shaped well at Royal Ascot last month before fading so should appreciate this drop back in trip and looks the danger. Commonsensical also deserves plenty of respect as he won nicely at Carlisle and backed that up at Newmarket latest.
