NAP – My best tip of the day
Newbury 4.10 Ascending (2/1)
Caught the eye running on well having been given a lot to do on handicap debut at Goodwood on reappearance; improved to win at that venue last time with plenty to spare; 4lb rise looks lenient so take the beating.
Great day yesterday with the Lucky 15 landing but sadly the frustrating run for the NAP continued with Zenga only managing second. I’m not far off the mark though so I know the tide will turn soon for my best bet. I’m going to head to Newbury on Friday where I’m really confident ASCENDING can get me back on track. This horse was an eye-catcher on reappearance and confirmed that promise to win with a bit up his sleeve last time. As long as he handles this quicker surface a 4lb rise is almost certainly lenient. He is down in my notes as a horse to keep on side. I missed the 11/4 but 2/1 still looks generous. The danger is Persian Royal who arrives on a hat-trick but this definitely tougher.

Newmarket 7.58 Bashosh (4/1)
Looked a horse going places winning his first two starts but failed to match expectations last year; good second on reappearance at Chelmsford and still has potential back on turf having been gelded; likeable claims here.
I’m definitely going to chance BASHOSH following that encouraging reappearance. He shaped as though he’d come on for the run and back on turf now I think there could be a fair bit more to come. Roger Varian has been hitting form recently too and that would have to be a big positive as well. Chasing Aphrodite is 2-2 and has impressed on both starts. He finds plenty off the bridle so might look in trouble before rallying but an opening mark of 92 is certainly no given which swings the pendulum back to the selection. Bell Rock was well backed at Goodwood and goes well at that track but didn’t show much and is hard to recommend off the back of that despite his falling mark.
