Ascot 1.50

Just the 4 runners for the Reynoldstown this year and BOLD ENDEAVOUR looks like it is his to lose. He has really thrived on his last two runs over fences with easy wins at Leicester before taking a better race at Doncaster by 7 lengths. He won going away on both occasions and the step up to this trip seems the logical step for him. He has a few Cheltenham entries so will have to win this well to take his chance in the Turners.

All his rivals need to find a fair bit on ratings but could well improve. Kinondo Kwetu has won all of his 5 chase starts and could take another step forward here making him the most likely danger to the selection. Jay Jay Reilly will likely follow them home in third.

Ascot 1.50

Bold Endeavour 4/6

Haydock 2.05

The way ERNE RIVER won over fences at Wetherby this time last year was mightily impressive so it was disappointing to see him take a tumble at Aintree. That clearly had a bigger effect than first thought as he disappointed at Sandown next time too. He didn’t run badly chasing home Hitman at Haydock on return but connections decided to come back over hurdles at Doncaster where he was beaten less than a length by a nice horse in Silver Flyer. He has had a wind op since and will be looking to win this probably before going back chasing.

Green Book is in decent heart having got his head back in front at Sandown last time. He has to give weight away here though and that will be no easy task. Ashtown Lad won at Aintree and then backed that up with a big run at Warwick so is another one that should get competitive and run well.

Ascot 2.25

In a really open race I am going with two here with LASKALIN being my strongest bet. He was last seen going close at Sandown earlier this month in a decent race. I think Ascot will really suit him and the fact he is better off for his close second last time due to claimer Lucy Turner taking of 5lb he will run a massive race.

At a big each way price NEON MOON looks weighted to go well. David Pipe’s charge went close at Taunton 11 days ago and looks to be in good form. He only carries 10 stone 6 and you should get a great run for your money if in the same form. Cap Du Nord is now 10 but ran one of his better races last time out. Christian Williams’ hardy handicapper carries a fairly low weight and rates the danger in here. It is good to see Sporting John running but this is likely a prep for the Grand National if he goes there.

Haydock 2.40

Good to see the loveable Bristol De Mai lining up again and hopefully he goes well but he struggled behind Protektorat on sole start this season and is likely up against it. I’m going to chance OMAR MARETTI running a big race. I was a big fan of this horse last season and he looked to be improving fast winning at Newcastle and then following up at Catterick. He was pulled up at Cheltenham but back on track on return only beaten 2 lengths. He is off the same mark here and with fitness on side going up in trip again he could run a big race.

Plenty of places up for grabs with most bookies so I’ll also chance FORTESCUE each way. He pulled up in the Welsh National but you’d be foolish to rule him out bouncing back down a couple of pounds and if he is in there pitching late he’ll be staying on strongly. Dangers include Fontaine Collonges and it wouldn’t surprise me to see Quick Wave run well too.

Ascot 3.00

This is quite competitive but if IRISH HILL keeps improving at the current rate he will be hard to beat here. Paul Nicholls has brought him along nicely all season winning well but not by too far so only carries an extra 6lb per win. He has likely targeted this race a long way out and he is the one to beat.

Zoffany Bay has solid form in France and if running to that level would be a threat to all but being off the track for 700 days is a big worry. Djelo and Homme Public are dangers up in trip but I actually think Too Friendly at a bigger price could prove the biggest threat with the extra distance likely to suit.

Wincanton 3.12

This looks a good opportunity for FIRST STREET to get back in the winners enclosure. He looked a horse going places winning easily at Newbury and certainly wasn’t disgraced when only third behind Marie’s Rock in the Relkeel last month. He remains a very decent horse and should confirm that form with Knappers Hill and win this.

The latter looks the danger as he had won 4 in a row prior to that defeat last time and is probably better than what he showed that day. I Like To Move It won the Greatwood but was disappointing behind the top 2 in the betting here when only sixth at Cheltenham last month so that leaves him a bit vulnerable. Global Citizen also up against it.

Ascot 3.35

Just the 6 runners but it looks a very good race with last years winner FAKIR D’OUDAIRIES back to try and retain his crown. He is a horse with so much heart as you saw at Thurles last time where he was pushed along before turning in but stayed on strongly to take advantage of the leader falling at the last. He stays all day and I think he is the right favourite for the race.

Shishkin stepping up in trip is really interesting and has big Cheltenham implications. He hasn’t been himself since beating Energumene in a really tough race last year and Henderson will be hoping this trip might bring him back to his best. If he is he could well bolt up but I don’t trust him currently and would rather side with a horse who you know will give everything. Pic D’orhy has turned into a very good chaser and is not without a chance. This is the best rivals he has faced but seems to be improving over fences so it wouldn’t be a surprise if he was in the mix at the finish.
