Curragh 1.50

This looks like a wide open renewal packed with talent. I really like His Majesty and I think he will be a top horse for Ballydoyle this season and next but like a few of these he had a tough race at Royal Ascot so might not be as good this week. UNQUESTIONABLE was beaten by His Majesty on debut but really stepped forward when up in trip last time. Ryan Moore has chosen him over His Majesty as well suggesting he probably has the better chance coming in fresher and he will be a big player here.

At 16/1 MYTHOLOGY looks overpriced if taking out some of the horses that had tough races at Royal Ascot. His form has worked out well and he could have a lot more to come. Bucarnero Fuerte like His Majesty ran a cracker at Ascot from the wrong side of the track and is another danger if ready to go again so soon. At a bigger price I Am Invictus could outrun his odds too.

Cartmel 2.05

There should still be more to come from GREY SKIES over fences and he went down less than a length when second over C&D last time so a repeat of that sort of form would likely have him bang there. He is looking to make it 3 wins from his last 4 and has a progressive look to his form now. Brian Hughes is booked for the ride again and 7/1 seems a bit big at the time of writing.

Arctic Ambition is chasing a hat-trick after winning with a bit in hand again last time. That did come over hurdles though and back over fences he needs to prove he can back that up. Should run well but no value in his price. Marshalled is another one in form and if the cheekpieces help going back on he could also get seriously competitive.

Curragh 2.25

Compared to the first race on the card this lacks depth and COMMANCHE FALLS is the one to beat. He was last seen going close in the Group 2 Clipper Stakes at York which is form that would be good enough to win this. With the ground expected to be pretty good it will be ideal conditions for him as he is rarely outside the top 2 or 3 on decent ground and will take some beating.

The main danger is likely Wodao who goes well at this level and as along as it isn’t too quick for him he will be in the mix. Of the rest Mooneista needs to prove herself at the trip and Castle Star will need to bounce back to form to get involved, if he does he could be well overpriced.

Cartmel 2.40

Another tricky race over jumps but the vote goes to TOO FRIENDLY for James Owen. This horse used to be trained by Dan Skelton but having switched yards looked back to his best winning impressively at Fakenham last time. He is 5lb higher but might still be capable of a big run in this if it pans out favourably again. He has plenty of gears and if he can keep lengthening in front they might not be able to live with him.

Tons of dangers as you’d expect likely headed by the favourite Banks Boy. He is unexposed and was a good second beaten just half a length at Cork when last seen. He has more to come and should run well. Of the rest Castel Gandolfo clocked a career best and is another one that should get competitive at the business end.

Curragh 3.00

In an open race I am going with a decent each way play in SILMANIYA who ran on well behind some of these last time over course and distance on her first run of the season. She will be far better fitter for that run and was dropped 3lb as a result. With a 5lb claimer on as well she is lower than her winning handicap mark last season and looks a cracking price here.

Run Ran Run is the favourite at the time of writing and is a danger to all off a low weight but doesn’t seem well handicapped based on her fine margin wins off marks in the 80s. Hispanic is a player if the run at Ascot didn’t take too much out of him as he is a horse very much on the up.

Uttoxeter 3.12

For a horse that is often overbet Cap Du Nord really doesn’t win enough. I’m going to oppose again and KINONDO KWETU catches the eye. He was progressive over fences last season and then looked back to his best winning at Aintree back in May. He is a likeable horse who could still have more to come so off a 8lb higher mark might still be the one to back.

Twig saw off 8 rivals over hurdles when last seen and has actually won 2 of his last 3 over timber. Back over fences if in the same form off the same mark should run well too. Amateur was pulled up in this 12 months ago but at least arrives with confidence high following that Ffos Las win last time.

Curragh 3.40

The Epsom Derby form is very much at the forefront of this race with the winner, second and fourth running here. AUGUSTE RODIN will likely confirm the form of that race after he really improved for the step up to this trip and the way he travelled and came home he looks a top class horse. He will likely win this as the odds suggest before going on to further Group 1 success.

If I was having a bet in the race WHITE BIRCH without the favourite is the one. I liked him in the English Derby and he ran on really well late on. Epsom isn’t an easy track to make ground up and the Curragh should really suit his run style and he will chase the favourite home. Sprewell is slightly ahead of him in the market as he found trouble in-running at Epsom but I think White Birch will hold the form. Up And Under didn’t go to Epsom so could prove himself a player if the step up in trip finds more improvement.
