Goodwood 1.40
In what is always an open race I am siding with LORD RIDDIFORD who has unbelievably taken the last two runnings of this race and they have got his handicap mark back down again as they do every year. He has been running okay but is now rated lower in the ratings than last year. If he is on his normal form at the track he has to be bang there at the finish.
Raasel and Vintage Clarets are higher up in the weights and are live dangers but this race usually goes to those lower down the handicap. Designer has taken a big dip at the weights and will get her favoured soft ground so I make her the main danger.
Goodwood 2.15
No Nay Never colt ARRAY shaped with plenty of promise when runner-up on debut at Newbury. He only went down a length and a quarter to a colt with more experience and they pulled nicely clear from the rest. He will know a lot more this time around and is fully expected to open his account.
Union Island ran well on debut at Hamilton but only 4 went to post that day and I’m not sure of the quality of that field. Either way I think he needs more to cope with the selection. Dorney Lake looks the most intriguing of the debutants so he’ll be worth a market check but he’ll need to be pretty smart to win this first time out. Darroch can improve on his debut run but this has strength in depth.
Goodwood 2.50
In a really competitive renewal I quite like two in here the main one being EAGLE’S WAY who was only just denied a 5-timer last week by a head. He is a typical Sir Mark Prescott improver and likely still has a bit more in the locker off a mark of 96. That is unchanged from his second to Cumulonimbus who I rate as a good yardstick. If this race doesn’t come too soon he will go well.
HAUNTED DREAM caught my eye a few runs back and ran well again at York last time. He was one of the only horses on the pace that managed to sustain it and was only beaten by a couple of hold up horses. It isn’t as easy to make up ground at Goodwood with more luck needed so I think he will go forward and is a solid each way bet.
Goodwood 3.25
I’m really keen on GOLDEN MIND here. This half-brother to Perfect Power was slowly into stride on debut but ran on well and wasn’t beaten far into third. He quickly improved to win stylishly at Leicester getting up late. He then progressed again in defeat to finish third in the Chesham at Royal Ascot and still possesses a great deal of potential. He has more to come especially over this trip and he looks great value to take this.
Iberian impressed winning well on debut at Newbury and could be the danger if improving again. Haatem has solid form to his name having been a bit unlucky at Epsom and then finishing fifth in the Coventry. He then chased home City Of Troy at Newmarket so should give his running once more.
Goodwood 4.00
The Lennox Stakes is always a cracking race and this year looks no different. It is hard to get away from KINROSS who won this in 2021 before losing out by a head last year when sneaking up the rail. He is in great form after a solid third behind the classy Shaquille and back up to this trip on a soft surface he is the one they all have to beat.
Isaac Shelby is another big purchase for Wathan Racing who have some extremely good horses. He has been holding his own at Group 1 level over this trip and further and rates the main danger as he gets weight from the selection. Al Suhail has form in the book at 7 furlongs to be competitive but Kinross does hold him on form.
Goodwood 4.35
I was really impressed by COURAGE MON AMI at Royal Ascot and with further improvement to come he should have a great chance to remain unbeaten and make it a perfect 5-5. He won at this track on reappearance and that is a huge positive to his chance as well as some horses fail to handle the undulations but he is already proven. I think he’ll confirm that form with Coltrane and they can finish the 1-2.
Coltrane is a very smart horse and he went down less than a length in the Gold Cup so I still expect him to put up a real fight but I can’t get away from the favourite. Emily Dickinson stays all day and knuckled down well to win at the Curragh last time. As long as this doesn’t come too soon she should run well too.
Goodwood 5.05
This looks a cracker with the maximum field of 20 set to run. Rowayeh’s form is the best in the book and is the right favourite. The draw of 18 puts me off though as will need a lot of luck. I actually fancy a horse she beat in RAJINDRI who carries 7lb less than her this time and she only beat her by a head off level weights. She has gone on to win and finish second in her next two runs at a mark of 78 I think underrates her and is a cracking each way price.
Rowayeh is the main danger as mentioned along with Stormy Sea under Ryan Moore. She is very unexposed and has a plum draw in two which Ryan will likely utilise. Of the rest Espressoo could run a nice race with more to come at this trip.
Goodwood 5.35
Kitai is looking for a hat-trick and will likely be hard to beat but I’m going to chance SOPHIA’S STARLIGHT bouncing back at a price. She had won 4 of her last 6 before running a bit flat at Newmarket last time and it would be no great surprise to see her bounce back. She is still feasibly treated off a mark of 87 and under aggressive tactics if getting anywhere near the lead might be hard to pass.
Plenty of dangers in the lucky last likely headed by Kitai but Candle Of Hope must have a squeak as well. She has been highly tried and didn’t run badly at all when fifth in the Sandringham last time. Crazy Luck also has a squeak as she is below her last winning mark.
