Goodwood 1.50
It has been a tough week at Goodwood and it doesn’t get any easier with this 18-runner handicap. Calling The Wind won this 2 years ago and will be popular after winning the Northumberland Plate but TYPEWRITER may well prove better value. I thought she shaped really well in defeat behind Dawn Rising at Royal Ascot and back slightly in trip looks a big help off the back of that effort. She has run well all season and with Harry Davies claiming 3lb is a live player.
Robert Johnson has won 5 of his last 6 and seems on a real roll at present. This is obviously tougher and despite being 1lb out the weights I can see him running well. Aggagio loves this venue and was an eye-catcher chasing home Courage Mon Ami back in May. Freshened up since that last run he is another one that could also get competitive.
Goodwood 2.25
Some superstars have contested this Group 3 over the years including Baeed two years ago. NOSTRUM could prove another star after he won so well on his comeback run. He missed the Guineas but could take advantage of these races and higher level ones in the later season. He is 5lb better than all of these on ratings and I think he wins this well if not too soft on the day.
Docklands has worked his way up through handicaps really nicely and this looks the next logical step. He handles and ground and rates the main danger to the selection. Epictetus could prove best of the rest back down to a mile with Bold Discovery another who could run a place on his best form.
Goodwood 3.00
Lattam has pressing claims here and he will go well but I’m fed up of backing short prices this week and I’m going to look elsewhere and RACINGBREAKS RYDER catches the eye. He failed to deliver at Royal Ascot last time but had excuses and before that was progressing nicely. He has been given time since and it would be no surprise to see him bounce back to form off a mark of 97 with this track potentially really suiting his style.
Plenty of dangers like always here this week and Blue For You would have to be considered having won so impressively at York last month. He has a 3lb penalty but still looks well treated and should run well. Tacarib Bay is another one that wouldn’t be a big surprise if he went close.
Goodwood 3.35
This race very much revolves around 3-time Group 1 winner HIGHFIELD PRINCESS who is looking to bounce back after 3 narrow defeats. She was giving weight away on her comeback run and was carried left at Royal Ascot. She then ran another massive race to finish third running on on the Saturday at Ascot just 4 days later. She has had a nice break between races and is the one to beat.
Equality and Ladies Church are the main dangers with the former on a hat-trick after landing a Group 3 last time. Ladies Church has been soundly beaten by the selection before but does tend to find a big performance sometimes. That said Highfield Princess will have to be below par not to win this.
Goodwood 4.10
With just 6 rivals to beat it is hard to oppose HAMISH at Glorious Goodwood on Friday. I have always been a big fan of this horse and he has now won 3 of his last 4 starts. He stayed on strongly to win the Silver Cup at York last month and with the ground in favour and this looking no tougher he should justify favouritism again.
Stablemate Candleford could turn out to be the biggest danger. He wasn’t seen to best effect at this track on reappearance back in June but if leaving that behind could run well. Mimikyu also needs to bounce back but if doing so she could also get involved.
Goodwood 4.45
This is a really tricky race with the bookies going 5/1 the field. STARLUST gets a narrow votes after a couple of nice wins in maiden and novice company. He is on a hat-trick here and with the yard in flying form and Connor Planas taking off a valuable 5lb he should be a big player here.
Loaded Gun is the favourite at time of writing and does seem to be off a handy weight. He is undoubtably the main danger I just question if some of the others might be a bit less exposed and he could be vulnerable even off a good handicap mark. At a bigger price Gaiden might be good stepping up in trip as her form is pretty solid.
Goodwood 5.20
Plenty in with chances here but recent results in this race show you want to be somewhere near the top of the market and NADER KING could represent value despite being favourite at the time of writing. This Camelot colt needed the experience on debut as a 2yo but improved to chase home King Of Steel on just his second start at Nottingham. Form of which obviously looks notably strong now.
He showed a good attitude to make a winning return at Nottingham back in April and despite being beaten twice since has performed with plenty of credit. He only went down a length behind Galactic Jack at Salisbury on first crack over a mile and a half and with the promise of more to come could get back in the winners enclosure now. Balance Play impressed winning at Chester but the worry is there is a lot of pace on here. Intricacy is also likely to be involved.
