Haydock 3.45

A tentative vote goes to MANILA SCOUSE as I feel if he gets a bit more luck in-running then he should come out on top. He was denied just a neck by Aberama Gold at York and the latter won the Stewards’ Cup at Goodwood yesterday so the form couldn’t have worked out any better. He is 3lb higher but is clearly ahead of the handicapper for now.

The danger could be Spoof who prevailed by a short head at Hamilton yesterday and if turned out quickly might be capable of going close. Of the rest Miss Brazen needs to bounce back from that Donny run but her second to Tattersall at Epsom reads well.

Manila Scouse 3/1

With none of these horses having a run to their name it is a race to have small bet or no bet in with it very much a guessing game. The one I like here is FOREVER BLUE though with the yard very good with horses first time up and they are in great form the past few weeks. She is bred to be very good and could prove that early on in her career.

Rainwater and Amroon are probably best of rest but it is very much a race to keep an eye on the 2 year olds.

Things didn’t work out for JUSTCALLMEPETE at Goodwood yesterday but his second at Newmarket before that denied just a short head catches the eye and I think he might be worth chancing if he does take up this engagement. He is usually very consistent and off a mark of 86 I still think he has a big run in him. He is around 6/1 which looks a good each way bet so fingers crossed connections decide to take his chance. It all depends if he has come out the race well and eats up overnight.

Dark Trooper won at Yarmouth last month and that is strong form. He is still fairly unexposed so if improving again is a danger to all. Aplomb could end up going off the rank outsider of the field but no surprise if he runs better than his odds suggest.

This race looks a cracker with 3 at the top of the market with form I am following closely. I give AULD TOON LOON the edge over Derry Lad but there isn’t loads in it. Auld Toon Loon is best at this trip with an easy win in a good race at Chester last month. He handles the soft ground and won’t be far away off a 4lb higher mark.

Derry Lad is a big danger to all seeking a hat-trick here but I do fear he could be in the grips of the handicapper soon. That said he has conditions and trip to suit and will run a big race. Bringbackmemories isn’t one to rule out as he is never far way and his form is working out very well.

The money is coming for Calyx colt NELLIE LEYLAX and it is easy to see why. He has won 2 from 4 starts and was firmly in control at Doncaster last month. He holds a Group 2 entry and now handicapping should take another step forward. He could be one to follow today and going forward as well.

Paladin improved to open his account at the third time of asking in testing ground here last month and if improving again on handicap debut could be the danger. Of the rest Beyond Borders is also capable of a big run so don’t easily dismiss.

Nellie Leylax 9/4

Another horse that I have followed since a decent third behind Tiffany is NIGIRI who routed a field at Haydock last time. She has been raised 7lb for it but if she is effective on the softer going she is the one they all have to beat.

Raimunda is the danger as she handles this heavy ground well as she showed when winning a novice event very well over course and distance. She will be a player again on handicap debut. Golden Melody could prove best of the rest if you put a line through her last run.

This is a wide open finale and MISS CYNTHIA might be worth chancing to run well and at good odds. She bumped into Lordship at Yarmouth, outh and then was a good second at Sandown last time to He’s A Latchico so certainly has the form to win a race like this. She is 3lb higher but looks sure to run well with the step up to 2 miles sure to suit.

Cinnodin is progressive and has won 4 of his last 6 starts so lots a danger to all. He should love the trip and might still be one step ahead of the assessor. Nathanael Greene was behind Sweet William last time beaten nearly 8 lengths. This is easier and he might be best of the rest.
