Newbury 12.10

The well regarded JERIKO DU REPONET bolted up in a point back in March winning by 11 lengths. He has since been snapped up by JP McManus and sent to Nicky Henderson so hopes will be high that he can make a winning start over hurdles here. The yard saddles Jet Powered in this last year so usually try and target a good one at it.

Centara looked a bright prospect winning a bumper on debut but then pulled up at Aintree albeit in a strong contest. He still has potential now hurdling and is the likely danger. Mountain Pass is another to note but likely needs more time.

Newbury 12.10

Jeriko Du Reponet 1/3

Main danger Centara

Newbury 12.40

After winning at Ascot on debut PERSIAN TIME didn’t really kick on over hurdles last season but his form looks stronger now bumping into the likes of Springwell Bay and Hugos New Horse when last seen. He is open to improvement now sent chasing and I’m keen to keep him on side here as I think he could be a useful recruit to this sphere. An opening mark of 129 should be workable and it is no surprise to see him figuring prominently in the betting.

Djelo impressed beating Master Chewy at Aintree and the fourth Real Stone has franked that form since so he looks the danger. Stablemate to the selection Russian Ruler is another one to note.

Gordon Elliott brings over unbeaten filly WODHOOH for this Listed prize and she is difficult to oppose. She didn’t achieve a huge amount on the Flat for Sir Michael Stoute but has taken really well to hurdles winning all 3 starts. She is open to further improvement and should justify cramped odds.

Max Of Stars looked good when last seen making it 4 wins from her last 5 starts and if it wasn’t for the Irish raider she’d likely be favourite for this having been freshened up. Of the rest Saisissante is also noted having impressed at Ludlow last time.

Newbury 1.15

Wodhooh 4/6

Main danger Max Of Stars

Newbury 1.50

It was a shame HERMES ALLEN failed to get competitive in the Ballymore but he clearly did too much early on in that race and his third to Irish Point at Aintree was a decent run. He should have more to offer now sent chasing and this looks a good starting point for him before going on to bigger and better things.

Nickle Back has impressed winning both starts over fences and if improving again looks the most obvious danger in here. Marble Sands returned with a win at Ayr but this is tougher again.

Hermes Allen 11/8 NEXT BEST

Main danger Nickle Back

Newbury 2.25

It wouldn’t be a massive surprise if KANDOO KID ended up going off favourite for this. He bumped into Nickle Back on return and on chase debut at Warwick and then improved to go down just a neck to a useful yardstick at this track last time. He can improve again and I’m expecting him to run a very nice race here.

Frero Banbou obviously represents the red-hot Venetia Williams and he ran well when third to Gesskille at Aintree so looks a danger on that form. The Big Bite was pulled up on final start but if he bounces back on return might surprise a few.

Newbury 2.25

Kandoo Kid 4/1

Main dangers Frero Banbou and The Big Bite (the latter might be worth an each way saver)

Newbury 3.00

I have been looking forward to this race and after much deliberation I have decided to side with PAISLEY PARK. He beat Thistlecrack in this race back in 2019 before chasing home Thyme Hill in 2020 and then Thomas Darby and On The Blind Side in 2021. He went down just a neck to Champ in it last year and looks to have just the one horse to beat in Marie’s Rock. He is an 11yo now but goes particularly well fresh and he might be able to roll back the years.

Marie’s Rock is a big danger but her jumping can let her down from time to time and I’m just not keen on taking a short price. She was last seen chasing home Sire Du Berlais at Aintree and is proven fresh so is definitely feared. Dashel Drasher got desperately tired at Wetherby on return but with that under his belt also has a squeak.

Newbury 3.00

Paisley Park 10/3

Main danger Marie’s Rock

Newbury 3.35

I have this between Hyland, Ed Keeper and HOE JOLY SMOKE and I’m going to side with the latter at what I think is a decent price. He was back to form on reappearance following a wind op to finish third at Chepstow and now handicapping I wouldn’t be surprised if he took a big step forward again. I know they still think a fair bit of him so he could be worth keeping on side.

Ed Keeper is also going the right way having gone down less than a length at Ascot on return and obviously the hat-trick seeking Hyland impressed at Cheltenham last time and is also on an upward curve.

Newbury 3.35

Hoe Joly Smoke 11/2 each way

Main danger Hyland and Ed Keeper (the latter might be worth an each way saver)
