Newbury 1.40
The money is really coming for JET POWERED now and I have a feeling he might be tough to beat. He looked exciting winning on debut under Rules at this track last year and while things didn’t go to plan next time I don’t think he was right that day. He still has a lot of potential off a mark of 131 and should be the one to beat.
At a double-figure price I do think GET A TONIC might go well so she is worth an each way saver. She ran poorly on chase debut at Warwick and is quickly back over hurdles here so if bouncing back might surprise a few and run into a place.
Fairyhouse 2.00
A fiercely competitive handicap chase in Ireland now and hopefully THE FOLKS TIARA can run well. He caught the eye third to Dinoblue on return last season and then finished a good second at Tramore. He didn’t really need to improve to win at Downpatrick but his form stacks up. Freshened up and back over fences I’m expecting a big run as he is still unexposed.
Plenty of dangers likely headed by Whiskeywealth who should strip a lot fitter from that reappearance run at Cork back in October. Like the selection he should have more to come especially over fences. Grey Diamond is another one to note especially if attracting late support.
Newbury 2.15
I’m looking forward to seeing UNDER CONTROL back out for Nicky Henderson. This exciting filly won 3 times from just 4 starts last season and beat subsequent Greatwood winner Iberico Lord on final start at Sandown. Her only blip came at the Cheltenham Festival and she retains a lot of potential for the season ahead. This is a good starting point and I think she’ll be hard to beat.
Brentford Hope impressed getting back on track here last month and is the danger but this is a lot tougher so he’ll need to step forward again. Hansard is another one to note having bumped into Rubaud on return at Wincanton. He could get competitive if leaving that behind now.
Newbury 2.50
I am really strong on COMPLETE UNKNOWN here. This horse did well over hurdles winning at Sandown and Ffos Las and has taken even better to chasing winning impressively at Kempton before bumping into Gerri Colombe at Aintree. He was back on the up beating Might I at Newton Abbot which is strong form and with more to come again he looks a major player in this under Harry Cobden.
Given the nature of the race I’m also going to have a saver on TWIG as I think he can run well and has been largely overlooked in the betting at around 12/1 at the time of writing. He won 3 from 5 over fences last season and there was lots to like about his reappearance second at Cheltenham. Monbeg Genius is clearly a horse with potential too and he is a big threat if putting that Ascot blip behind him.
Newbury 3.25
Master Chewy is all the rage for the lucky last and his form was franked yesterday with Djelo running out an easy winner at this track. He should go well but at odds-on he might be worth trying to oppose. The likeable ELIXIR DE NUTZ won the Haldon Gold Cup last month and he has a relentless way of going so if the fav makes any errors I do think he’ll pick up the pieces.
With Real Stone out Master Chewy should be the danger but if he blows out then perhaps Bollingerandkrug won’t be far away. He has won his last 3 and 4 of his last 5 but this is definitely a fair bit tougher.
Fairyhouse 3.40
Mullins in the bumper is usually the method punters deploy so no surprise to see Inn At The Park backed into favouritism. I do think JALON D’OUDAIRIES might be the value shout though. He wasn’t cheap after winning his sole start in a point and he could be a nice prospect for connections.
Of the rest Binge Worthy is a half-brother to 3 winners and is closely related to Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Minella Indo so no surprise if he runs well first time out as well in a race that could be informative going forward.
