Cheltenham 12.55
I was with MATATA on chase debut and he made no mistake winning impressively at Ffos Las back in October. The horse he beat 10 lengths Cruz Control is a decent yardstick so that is solid form. He has been raised 9lb but that is understandable and with more to come I think he can follow up here. Daryl Jacob will need to keep a tight rein of his head as he is an enthusiastic sort but if he gets dictating they might not see which way he goes.
Libberty Hunter quickly made up for that fall at Chepstow to win at Wincanton last month. That was impressive the way he came there going strongly. He has more to come so looks the danger but the selection might be away and gone by the time he looks to get going.
The way IN THIS WORLD finished behind Go Dante and co at Cheltenham last time was hugely eye-catching. He was given a patient ride and just got taken off his feet before finding his stride up the hill. He goes up in trip now and racing off the same mark should have a great chance to get his head back in front.
Matchless has been consistent of late and was only denied a nose at Doncaster when last seen so looks the obvious threat.
Cheltenham 1.30
The hat-trick seeking INCH HOUSE looks to be thriving over fences and with the promise of more to come I’m keen to keep him on side once more. He jumped well again last time and asserted in good style before always doing enough. He has gone up 7lb but still looks ahead of the handicapper and is a confident bet to go in again.
Stumptown pulled up at Newbury last time but if you can forgive him that then he could still be the biggest danger.
Cheltenham 2.05
Despite landing awkwardly over the last STAGE STAR still managed to win the Paddy Power Gold Cup impressively here back in November. He has a huge engine this horse and if he avoids errors I am struggling to see him beat. He has already won 5 times over fences and just keeps improving. This is a good race again but the market has it spot on and he is definitely the one to beat.
Richmond Lake also looks on an upward curve over fences and impressed staying on strongly to win by a wide margin at Aintree. He has more to come again and is the obvious danger. Frero Banbou is 4lb wrong at the weights but might still run a big race too.
Musselburgh 2.20
After going down just half a length to Boothill at Ascot FRERE D’ARMES must have a great chance to go one better here. He is still well handicapped off a mark of 134 and given he is unexposed over 2 and a half miles I am expecting a big run. His form is solid and he is versatile regarding the ground too as has won on soft in the past if the rain does come.
Half Shot arrives with confidence high after winning easily here last time so could be the danger. Cracking Destiny is another one I am expecting to get competitive at least.
Cheltenham 2.40
I know there are some nice horses lining up for this so I don’t expect it to be easy by any means but I can’t get away from ED KEEPER after that impressive Newbury win. He relished going up in trip on that occasion and stayed on strongly to fend off another promising horse in Hoe Joly Smoke. The field was well strung out in behind and the sixth Rambo T has come out and won easily since to give the form some substance. He remains unexposed as a stayer so I don’t expect a 9lb rise to anchor him.
Butch has won 3 of his last 4 and showed a good attitude to prevail at Cheltenham when last seen so could be the danger. Springwell Bay is another one on an upward curve so should at least get competitive.
