Newbury 12.55
I can see EAST INDIA EXPRESS running better than his odds suggest here. He bolted up on debut in a bumper at Kempton last year and then made a winning reappearance on debut over hurdles at the same venue back in November. He wasn’t as good when fourth at Newbury but that was behind Gidleigh Park and he didn’t truly see out the trip. Back down to 2 miles should see him in a better light and he retains potential.
Hasthing is 2-2 over hurdles and impressed last time so could be the danger. Making Headway is favourite and is also unexposed so this looks a decent race on paper.
I did initially quite like Young Butler for this but with him taken out it looks a good opportunity for KYNTARA to resume the winning groove. He has really taken his form up a notch for this yard making a winning stable debut at Lingfield and then following up equally as impressively at Aintree back in December. He went up another 6lb and only found one rival too strong at Warwick last month. I actually think he would have won the last day but for a bad error at the final flight. He is unexposed over this trip in handicaps and off just a 4lb higher mark looks a great bet under Charlie Deutsch with the ground testing.
Back up in trip American Sniper could emerge as the biggest danger but Emitom also looks nailed on to get competitive.
Newbury 2.05
I really hope Nicky Henderson runs SHISHKIN here as it will be great to see him out again. He looked set to win the King George before than unfortunate mishap away from the last. He is the class act here being top rated and should comfortably justify favouritism.
Protektorat ran well chasing home L’Homme Presse at Lingfield but he has been on the go a while now and with conditions testing there might be value in backing Sam Brown for the forecast.
Newbury 2.40
This seems a good opportunity for BOOTHILL to get back on track. He was progressing well over fences winning twice at Ascot before a rare fall at Kempton last time. If his confidence hasn’t been knocked and he gets into a good rhythm I can see him picking these up.
The danger would have to be Edwardstone who will be suited by going back over 2 miles. Editeur Du Gite is still in the betting but Gary Moore confirmed on Friday he is unlikely to run and will also skip Cheltenham and head straight to Aintree.
Newbury 3.15
I know it is a big ask to carry nearly 12 stone and win this but the deep ground should really suit SPIRIT D’AUNOU and I’m confident he can run a big race for Gary Moore. He has won 5 of his last 6 and his form really stacks up. It would be no surprise to see him progress again and at the prices he is worth chancing each way with Caoilin Quinn claiming a handy 3lb too.
Iberico Lord is still a horse I’m interested in here as he impressed winning the Greatwood on return. He wasn’t seen to best effect at Ascot and I think he could bounce back and be the danger here. Altobelli is a bit one paced but will be keeping on so is another one to note. Mullins has Ocastle Des Mottes who is also interesting but little value in his price with him being favourite.
Newbury 3.15
Spirit D’Aunou 9/1 each way LONGSHOT
Main danger Iberico Lord
Newbury 3.50
I have no doubt INCH HOUSE is the one to beat here back at Newbury. He is unbeaten at this track having opened his account over fences back in November before following up in good style next time out in December. He bumped into a rejuvenated Stumptown at Cheltenham last month and is still unexposed so could easily improve again.
Makin’yourmindup bumped into Apple Away at Leicester when last seen and given time since could emerge as the main threat here.
Newbury 4.25
An intriguing bumper to close out and I’m going to chance ROYAL INFANTRY following up that Doncaster win. I was really impressed with the way he picked up and he could be a smart horse going forward. I know the runner-up Off The Jury let the form down somewhat yesterday but I think that horse just needs more time to come good. He would have improved and 6/1 seems a fair price.
Union Avenue showed a good attitude to win again at Aintree last time and looks the obvious danger. Histrionic is another one to note after finishing third over C&D, he will come on plenty for that.
