Sandown 1.50
After impressing on hurdles debut HASTHING improved again to follow up at Catterick. He was never put in the race at Newbury last time and that certainly hasn’t been missed. They likely had this in mind for him and he is clearly going to be well handicapped off a mark of 119. He is improving with experience and I expect him to justify favouritism in this.
Fire Flyer bolted up at Wincanton and then just about prevailed at Taunton. He is a nice enough horse and should run well. At a huge price Thank You Ma’am might be able to hit the frame.
Back down in class at Newbury MAKING HEADWAY made no mistake running out a convincing winner last month. He is progressing with experience and now sent handicapping could have even more to come. This is tough obviously but he is a fascinating contender and I’m keen to chance him against these as some of them are exposed.
Bad has done very little wrong again running a massive race denied just a head at Ascot last month. That was his first start following a wind op so there could still be more to come despite being nudged up another 4lb again.
Wolverhampton (AW) 2.40
Having won fresh twice in the past SHOULDVEBEENARING must have a great chance to win this on return. He ended last year very much on the up going down just a neck to Regional in the Sprint Cup and then finishing third behind Kelina and Kinross in the Prix de la Foret in France. He is top rated and is expected to get the job done under Sean Levey.
Nine Tenths is progressing well and looks the obvious danger after running a big race to finish second to the progressive Dear My Friend. Doctor Khan Junior has won his last 4 but will find this tougher.
Sandown 3.00
Plenty in here with chances but HONKY TONK HIGHWAY won her sole start in an Irish point and it is interesting Dan Skelton has targeted her at this first time out. The vibes are strong and I’m expecting a big run. She will obviously come on for the experience but this Listed prize does look winnable so she should be going close.
I’ve Madeupmymind shaped well on debut to finish second and this sterner test of stamina will suit so she could emerge as the danger. Just Call Me Lucy is another one to note.
Wolverhampton (AW) 3.15
The form pick here has to be KINGDOM COME for Clive Cox. He chased home winning machine Doctor Khan Junior at this track on return and then was a good third behind Dear My Friend and McLean House at Lingfield last time. He is still unexposed so could easily improve again and with both trainer and jockey red-hot he should go close.
King’s Code is on a hat-trick and looks the danger despite going up in the weights again. Smoky Mountain has been mega consistent and is also likely to get competitive once again.
Sandown 3.35
That was a good ride Harry Cobden gave GOLDEN SON at Kempton but seeing as the runner-up Heltenham has come out and won a good race at Newbury since I’m keen on him to follow that up. He had previously shown promise chasing home Iroko on debut for this yard but then pulled up at both Aintree and Newbury before rediscovering form last time. When on song he is clearly a talented individual and up just 3lb I’m keen to keep him on side.
Terresita impressed winning by a comfortable margin at Ludlow last month and looks the most obvious danger but don’t rule out Kotmask either as he likes it here and is on a hat-trick but has gone up in the weights again.
