A lot like yesterday the opener is wide open! Thankfully we did land a 9/1 winner to kick the day off on Wednesday so I’ve gone for one at a fairly big price again in HOLLY who is 12/1 at the time of writing. She was only beaten half a length by Brentford Hope at Haydock when last seen and that horse has franked that form chasing home Daddy Long Legs on Tuesday. She is only 1lb higher and must run well.
Plenty of dangers likely headed by Undeniable Alibi who is unexposed and didn’t run badly at all when third to Toto Too beaten just over 2 lengths at Naas. At a bigger price Nara could run well if settling better.
Punchestown 3.40
Main danger Undeniable Alibi but look out for Nara at bigger odds
The money is coming for BLOOD DESTINY and it is easy to see why. He was back to his best winning readily at Navan and then chased home Spillane’s Tower and Tactical Move and that form has been franked since. Now sent handicapping and dropping back to 2 miles he should take an awful lot of beating. If he gets into a nice rhythm early then watch his in-play odds drop.
Mighty Tom caught the eye at Cork chasing home Letsbeclearaboutit and freshened up with Jack Kennedy booked could be the danger. Gua Du Large represents Robcour and impressed winning at Tramore. That is decent form so at a bigger price he could hit the frame.
Punchestown 4.50
I always like watching La Touche Cup and this year it would be great to see the loveable grey COKO BEACH win it. He has looked better than ever this season finishing third in the Munster National on return and then winning the Troytown from Limerick Lace. He then finished runner-up in the Becher before winning a Cross Country race at this track in February. He was by no means disgraced in the Grand National last month and if coming out of that race okay should be hard to beat.
Stumptown pulled up at the Cheltenham Festival but was back to form when third behind Manothepeople at that venue last month and looks the obvious danger as he still has potential. Both Birchdale and Fameaftertheglory should also be thereabouts but the fav will be hard to beat.
Punchestown 5.25
Hard to look past GAELIC WARRIOR and no surprise to see him a short priced favourite. He was arguably one of the most stylish winners at the Cheltenham Festival last month and if backing up that Arkle romp will follow up. His CV is near faultless and he is still unexposed in this sphere so if improving quite simply will prove too good for these. It’ll be interesting to see how they ride him but ultimately he should prove the answer.
Il Etait Temps is likeable and was back to his best winning at Aintree. He obviously has a bit to find with the selection on the Arkle form though. Hercule Du Seuil ran a strange race at Aintree dropping back before running on well and could acquit himself well again.
Punchestown 6.00
I had my doubts over TEAHUPOO before Cheltenham but he really proved me wrong coming there strongly before winning the Stayers impressively. I was kicking myself as I backed him when he was beaten a nose in the race the year before and lost the faith. He is clearly at the top of his game now and is the one to beat in this division and likely will be for a couple of years too. He has been freshened up since Cheltenham and is the one they all have to beat again.
In terms of a danger don’t be surprised if Lantry Lady manages to improve a fair bit and chase him home. She was fourth to Lossiemouth at Cheltenham but this trip should suit and I can see her improving and she is being overlooked in the betting.
Punchestown 6.35
This is probably the toughest race of the day but I can see 14/1 chance POPOVA running a big race. She wasn’t seen at her best behind Monmiral at Cheltenham last time but off a mark of 125 here could easily get back on the up and I do think she’ll be suited by this big field as it will help her settle. Her fourth at this track back in November was a good effort and she is a bigger price than I thought she’d be in an open race.
Lots of dangers likely headed by the favourite Captain Cody who bolted up at Fairyhouse. He is open to further improvement now handicapping and should go well. Kilbeg King is another one I can see in the mix.
Punchestown 7.05
I know SPINDLEBERRY is odds-on for this but she really should get the job done. She won impressively on debut over hurdles at Fairyhouse and then bumped into Jade De Grugy last time. She is obviously open to further improvement and should justify favouritism. There isn’t tons of pace on so I don’t expect her to get too far back and I’ll be surprised if there are many excuses.
Got Glory impressed getting off the mark at Naas and could be one of those that makes a race of it. Only By Night has proved a little frustrating but if bouncing back could get competitive as well.
Punchestown 7.40
I’m expecting PORT JOULAIN to remain unbeaten here. He cost plenty and made a winning debut at Gowran Park back in March. Freshened up since with this the likely target he should make it a perfect 2-2. He was well backed last time too so I’ll be hoping to see him strong in the betting. Obviously it’s a bumper so anything can improve so not a race to go mad in but I am looking forward to seeing him as he looks a nice prospect for Rich Ricci.
Samyr was heavily punted on debut and delivered the goods winning by 8 lengths so could be the danger. Goldinthemountains won at Leopardstown and is another one in with a squeak. Could be some nice types in this bumper.
Punchestown 7.40
Main danger Samyr but Goldinthemountains could also be a nice horse

Punchestown Day 3 Acca
