Chester 1.30

I know VINTAGE CLARETS has been a bit of a negative in the betting but I still think he can run a nice race here. He struck over C&D as a 4yo beating Lihou and Ancient Times which is decent form. I know he is 8lb above that winning mark here but he is actually down a couple of pounds since that reappearance run at Pontefract and back on this better ground should be capable of a big run.

Plenty of dangers and Roman Dragon would have to be feared. He goes particularly well here and with Oisin Murphy up looks sure to run well. With a run under his belt Manila Scouse is another one I can see getting competitive.

Chester 1.30

Vintage Clarets 10/1 each way LONGSHOT

Main danger Roman Dragon but look out for a big run from Manila Scouse too

Huntingdon 1.50

I’m not sure why this race has been included on ITV on Thursday but there you go. I picked out FORGET THE WAY to run well at a double-figure price but his odds seem to be tumbling now. He was actually pulled up on final start over fences for Alan King but he had some decent form in the book prior to that blip and now back over hurdles and back up in trip on debut for his new yard he could run a big race.

Quite a few could challenge including the top-weight King Of The Road who is eyeing up a hat-trick. He has gone up 10lb though so it won’t be easy. Of the rest Mammies Boy was fifth behind the favourite at Market Rasen so is also worth noting.

Huntingdon 1.50

Forget The Way 10/1 each way

Main danger King Of The Road and also Mammies Boy could get involved

Chester 2.05

I’m expecting RASHABAR to take a big step forward from that debut effort. He ran well beaten just over 2 lengths at Newbury and just looked a bit clueless when asked to get competitive. The runner-up Star Anthem and fourth Running Queen have both won since to frank the form so no surprise to see him strong in the betting as his claims look crystal clear.

Teej A acquitted herself well on debut too finishing second at Nottingham but that form doesn’t look as strong. The Flying Seagull is an interesting debutant as he is very well related so if strong in the betting might be one to look out for in opposition.

Chester 2.05

Rashabar 7/2

Main danger Teej A up in trip but debutant The Flying Seagull is also respected

Chester 2.35

After bumping into Ancient Wisdom and Vandeek as a 2yo NEVER SO BRAVE clearly improved as expected to make a winning reappearance at Thirsk last month. He is up slightly in trip again for his handicap debut and with more to come should follow up. He has been notably strong in the betting overnight which is good to see as the yard have been a bit quiet but this horse is clearly armed with tons of potential.

Dashing Darcey was denied just a neck on return at Newbury and if progressing looks the danger. He has been weak in the betting though which is a bit concerning. Grey Cuban will be suited by this track and won impressively on return at Wolverhampton so now handicapping could run well too under Buick.

Chester 2.35

Never So Brave 13/8 NAP

Main danger Dashing Darcey but Grey Cuban could get competitive too under Buick

Chester 3.05

The step up in trip brought out the best in JAYAREBE at Newmarket and he ran out an impressive winner on return. That form has already been franked with the third Caviar Heights winning effortlessly since. He is up to a mile and a quarter for the first time here so should improve again and he is hard to oppose. This is a good race with some nice types lining up but he is definitely a colt to keep on the right side of today and going forward.

Bracken’s Laugh impressed visually winning at Chelmsford but that wasn’t really backed up by the clock so perhaps God’s Window will be a greater threat having won as expected at Nottingham on return.

Chester 3.05

Jayarebe 3/1 NOTEBOOK

Main danger God’s Window

Chester 3.40

Aidan O’Brien has won this in recent years with the likes of Idaho and Japan and he has a good chance this year with POINT LONSDALE. This son of Australia won the Huxley Stakes at this meeting last year so has good form at the track and back down in grade having run at the top level in Dubai recently he should be the one to beat. I think he’ll enjoy going up in trip again and the market seems to be particularly keen on his chances.

Arrest is obviously plenty talented and could be the danger. He is still just a 4yo so might have more to come but that run behind Hamish on return at Newbury leaves him with a bit to prove. He did win the Chester Vase here impressively last year though so does like this venue and should bounce back.

Chester 3.40

Point Lonsdale 15/8

Main danger Arrest

Chester 4.10

I found this race a real puzzle but I did give a tentative vote to PEARL EYE. He has drifted twice in price this morning so I have had another bet in the race too which I’ll explain in a bit. Regarding the latter he impressed winning by a length on return at Pontefract and carrying a penalty should run well. He is unexposed over a mile and a quarter and ran well over track and trip when second to Bear On The Loose last year. I still think he should be in the shake-up.

The other one I like has now been backed into favouritism INSPIRITUS for Roger Varian. This son of Sea The Stars has won 2 of his last 4 and impressed beating a good horse in Civil Law at Lingfield. He is 5lb higher but back on turf should have more to come and his strong travelling style will be suited by this tight track. Dangers include Crystal Mariner and Dream Harder.

Chester 4.10

Inspiritus 7/2

Pearl Eye 11/1 each way saver

Main dangers Crystal Mariner and Dream Harder

Chester 4.45

The lucky last actually looks a race worth sticking around for a chance and ARCH LEGEND should be hard to beat. This Camelot colt is on a hat-trick after beating Cock And Bull at Windsor and then following up impressively at Wolverhampton last time. His yard have won 3 of the last 6 runnings of this contest so usually target a good one at it and he certainly fits the bill.

Fouroneohfever showed a good attitude to win by a nose at Wolverhampton last month and looks the danger off the back of that if improving again. Filibustering catches the eye at a double-figure price but this is tough.

Chester 4.45

Arch Legend 2/1

Main danger Fouroneohfever

Chester May Festival Day 2 Acca

This acca looks a good price. Played it a bit safer than yesterday. Pays 14/1!
