Newcastle (AW) 1.35
A fast surface probably counted against WILTSHIRE last time but even so he was given too much to do and was never put in the race. Before that he won at Chelmsford and looked good in softer ground at Newbury and given he is unexposed could easily have more to come on the AW (2-2 on an artificial surface) and gets the vote here despite it looking competitive.
City House looked good winning at Kempton and while he hasn’t been in the winners enclosure since he was only denied a neck last time and another run like that would see him involved and as the likely danger. Batal Dubai needs to bounce back but is another one to note.
Newcastle (AW) 2.04
Kinross skipped Royal Ascot due to the ground being too fast and he will understandably prove popular here but I do prefer SPYCATCHER for Karl Burke. He was a good third at Newmarket on return and had excuses when down the field at York. He is a very useful operator when on song and was runner-up in this 12 months ago so should go close.
Montassib was denied a hat-trick at York behind Mill Stream but ran well and that’s decent form so could be the danger. Albasheer was hampered in the Wokingham a week ago and is another one to note.
Newmarket 2.15
I was at Epsom to see TEEJ A win and it was quite an impressive performance in the flesh. She beat subsequent Royal Ascot winner Rashabar at Chester before that so her form is stacking up. I know the runner-up last time Megalithic has been beat at cramped odds since but that horse wants softer ground and a longer trip by the looks of it so that wouldn’t concern me too much. She steps into Listed company now but looks on an upward curve and I think she is worth keeping on side.
Tales Of The Heart cost som 400,000 guineas as a yearling and she made a bright start winning on debut at Kempton with the penny dropping late on. She has more to come but lacks experience but the yard do usually target a good one at this so she looks the danger. Pouting is quite a big price and might be worth a saver to hit the frame.
Newcastle (AW) 2.35
That was quite an impressive win from ALPHONSE LE GRANDE at Chester last month and that visual impression was backed up by the clock too. He has switched yards and gone up in the weights but must have a big chance again and is understandably likely to go off favourite.
Faylaq is on a lengthy losing run but he ran well when third at Hamilton last time and if building on that could have a chance. Chillhi has won at this track before and is another one that appeals at each way odds.
Newmarket 2.50
I backed Aimeric to win at Goodwood but KING OF CONQUEST firmly put him in his place. He stayed on strongly through the line and was good value for the victory so I think he’ll confirm that form here and follow up. Aimeric impressed winning at Lingfield before that so does look the danger again.
Crystal Delight has won his last two but they have both come in handicap company and this is going to be tougher again.
Newcastle 3.10
The Northumberland Plate is never an easy race to win but she is the roll TROOPER BISDEE is on he may well prove up to the task. They would have had this in mind with him and he has passed both tests so far this season winning at Nottingham and then following up at Pontefract. He carries a 5lb penalty but is still well handicapped over this trip and should run a big race under Hollie Doyle.
True Legend is a stablemate to the selection and might be able to give Sir Mark Prescott a famous 1-2 in the race. He was denied just a short head at Goodwood and has more to come as his stamina is drawn out further. Zoffee obviously won the Chester Cup last time and up 4lb is another one bang there.
Newmarket 3.25
The way NOBLE DYNASTY put subsequent Royal Ascot winner English Oak in his place on return was mightily impressive. He obviously steps back up to Group company here but is a half-brother to Barney Roy and could easily have further improvement to come. He has won 4 of his last 6 so is won over a mile in the past so he should be strong at the finish like he was the last day and 9/4 seems generous to me.
Tiber Flow has promised to do better for a while and did finally deliver at Haydock last time so looks the most obvious danger. Nostrum is the dark horse in here as he obviously had looked really promising but has gone off the boil so hard to back him with any confidence at present.
Newcastle (AW) 3.40
A tricky finale and I’m going to side with LOCAL HERO after that Kempton win. He impressed that day running on well and he is very interesting here up against older opposition. He is obviously unexposed so if improving again looks quite good value to come away with the prize.
United Approach was only fourth at Newbury but had won his previous two starts and is another one with more to offer so could easily be the danger. Make Me King needs to bounce back but wasn’t disgraced at Royal Ascot and will find this easier.
