Newmarket 1.15
A decent opener to kick off ITV on Saturday and it represents a good opportunity for LEAD ARTIST to end the season on a high. He has looked largely progressive beating King’s Gamble at Goodwood on penultimate start before bumping into Kinross down to 7f at Doncaster last month. He will love going back up in trip and given this is easier being a Group 3 he should get back to winning ways.
Liberty Lane has done little wrong himself and impressed getting back in the winners enclosure at Newmarket last month winning the Cambridgeshire in good style. He deserves a crack at Group company again and looks the biggest danger.
York 1.30
I loved the way BOLO NEIGHS won at the Curragh last month. He got into a lovely rhythm out in front and always looked to be in control running on strongly in the closing stages to win by 7 lengths at the line. It is no surprise to see him up to this level now off the back of that and with further improvement to come on just his fifth start he should have a great chance to follow up.
Invictus Gold won convincingly at Newmarket when last seen and arrives chasing a hat-trick now so looks the most obvious threat to the selection. It Ain’t Two has been on the go a while but also looks to have a squeak and might be value to hit the frame.
Newmarket 1.50
My Notebook runs in this race. I have two daily and you can find them on Gambling.com at The Panel. This has now been backed 9/4 into 11/8 and is one of the best backed horses running on ITV Racing this afternoon.
York 2.05
An open renewal as you’d expect and I’m keen to take a chance on the unexposed VALVANO for Ralph Beckett. This 3yo by Night Of Thunder looked quite exciting winning by 6 lengths on debut at Nottingham and then bumped into Guineas winner Notable Speech at Kempton. He was turned over at short odds at Salisbury but had excuses. He goes handicapping now and could be capable of a big performance.
Plenty of dangers in a race like this likely headed by Bolster who won twice earlier in the season and was back to form when second at Newbury in testing conditions last month. Magico is also at the top of his game and is another one to note.
Newmarket 2.25
I was impressed with that Haydock win from SILVER PEAK last month and if he improves again I think he could be the one to beat here. He still looked green the last day so you’d think there is plenty more progress to come. He was an expensive purchase and he is unexposed so is armed with a lot of potential.
Dubawi colt Delacroix won at the Curragh on just his second start and then bumped into one at Leopardstown last month. He can also keep on improving with experience so looks the danger. Stanhope Gardens should also have a bright enough future.
York 2.40
I’m going to chance ROOM SERVICE giving these weight and a beating for Kevin Ryan. He won a valuable sales race at Doncaster last season and was back to his best scoring at Pontefract on penultimate start. He was down the field at Ayr last month but the ground was probably too fast and now with a bit of cut underfoot he could get back to his best and go close.
Strike Red won this 2 years ago and clearly likes it here as went close over C&D 3 starts back. Returned to this venue he should go well and has been backed accordingly. Germanic and Jer Batt complete the shortlist in a wide open race.
Newmarket 3.00
It’s such a shame The Lion In Winter doesn’t take his chance. He has been deemed a non runner after suffering a bruised foot. It now looks a golden opportunity for SHADOW OF LIGHT to win again. This Lope De Vega colt thrashed Whistlejacket to win the Middle Park Stakes at this track last month and with the extra furlong no issue whatsoever he should make it 4 wins from 5 starts.
I actually think it’ll be a 1-2 for Charlie Appleby now with perhaps stablemate Ancient Truth the one to give the fav most to think about. He made it 3-3 beating Seagulls Eleven in the Superlative Stakes when last seen and also looks to have a bright future so should run a big race.
Newmarket 3.40
Willie Mullins certainly knows what it takes to win the Cesarewitch having taken it with the likes of Low Sun, Stratum and Great White Shark in recent years. SEA OF SANDS has been backed in from a double-figure price now and is likely to go off favourite. He is very unexposed and did well on the Flat in Germany. He made a winning start for this stable over hurdles last month and could be well handicapped back on the Flat.
Manxman is nearer the bottom of the weights and could be the danger. He is quite quirky but came sweeping through to peg back the progressive Warmonger at Southwell and if he gets carried into the race I can see him running on strongly.
