Cheltenham 1.50

The loveable Chianti Classico is all the rage for this and understandably after he shouldered a big weight to victory at Ascot on return. He is a reliable chaser now and should go well but I want to chance KING TURGEON at a bigger price. He arrives on a hat-trick and his jumping should make him a serious rival.

Bar the front pair The Newest One is also worth a mention as he impressed winning here on penultimate start and wasn’t disgraced behind Transmission at the November meeting last time.

Cheltenham 1.50

King Turgeon 3/1

Main danger Chianti Classico

Bangor 2.05

No real surprise to see KEVIN’S PRIDE heavily backed here. He made an impressive start bolting up in a bumper at Kilbeggan and then missed just a neck on hurdles debut likely bumping into a nice horse in Aboutdamntime who runs in the Grade 2 at Cheltenham tomorrow. He almost certainly has more to come and should go one better now.

Skuna Bay didn’t shape badly on debut under Rules finishing third at Carlisle and might be the one to chase the favourite home. Alan De Banks has been nibbled at and should also do better going forward but might need more time and experience.

Bangor 2.05

Kevin’s Pride 4/5 NEXT BEST

Main danger Skuna Bay

Cheltenham 2.25

I do love these Veteran events as we are all familiar with these horses and have probably backed them all at some point down the years. I’m pleasantly surprised to see SHAKEM UP’ARRY as big as 15/2 for this. He won in good style here on penultimate start and despite that poor run at Aintree given time if he is fit and ready to go he should acquit himself well.

Shan Blue looked like he would improve for that reappearance fourth at Bangor and he could be a danger to all if bringing his best form now. Dashel Drasher wears his heart on his sleeve and is another one to note.

Cheltenham 2.25

Shakem Up’arry 15/2 each way

Main danger Shan Blue

Bangor 2.40

I see this as a straight shootout between the top two in the betting and PLAISIR DES FLOS might prove hard to beat. He has been massively progressive over hurdles winning 5 in a row before going down a creditable length and a half to Double Powerful at Cheltenham last month. He could have more to come and shouldn’t be underestimated.

Thanksforthehelp ran well when fourth behind Doyen Quest and is coming back to the boil now so definitely looks the danger. Schalke didn’t shape badly when third last time and is also noted. Mahland probably wants softer ground.

Bangor 2.40

Plaisir Des Flos 10/3

Main danger Thanksforthehelp

Cheltenham 3.00

I thought that was a hugely eye-catching effort from MISTER COFFEY behind Sweet David last month. He ran on really well at the finish and if building on that with the ground in his favour again he must have a big chance to go one better. I know he has been frustrating in the past but I didn’t see anything wrong with that run last time.

Stumptown impressed in Ireland last month and if coming forward from that is an obvious danger. Latenightpass has had a run so there won’t be any excuses here but has a bit to prove.

Cheltenham 3.00

Mister Coffey 6/1 each way

Main danger Stumptown

Cheltenham 3.35

I was with DOYEN QUEST at the November meeting and he turned out to be a handicap blot overcoming a bad error early on to cut through the pack. He is still unexposed over this trip so even with the hike in the weights could easily improve enough to follow up. He has size and scope and I expect him to give these a beating.

Long Draw is a horse I like too and he has done nothing wrong recently. That was another big effort chasing home Hamsiyann at the November meeting so he is the obvious threat on recent form.

Cheltenham 3.35

Doyen Quest 5/4 NOTEBOOK

Main danger Long Draw
