Cheltenham 1.15
With the ground on the soft side SAUVIGNON definitely has a chance here. He won 2 from 3 over in France before joining these connections and he impressed with how hard he hit the line on debut and then again at Auteuil on final start. He should be finishing well up the hill and has a chance.
East India Dock is 2-2 over hurdles and was impressive here last time so has to be feared but he can pull hard and he is short enough. Stencil is also over from France and looks impressive before that blip last time so might bounce back and be the threat.
Doncaster 1.30
This is a trappy race and made even harder by the fact there are only 7 runners so just 2 places up for grabs. Saying that I am going to chance THIRD TIME LUCKI at a price. He was pretty smart back in the day for Dan Skelton and could leave behind those last two efforts dropped another 4lb by the handicapper.
General Medrano was back to winning ways emphatically at Newbury on penultimate start and is better than he managed to show last time so don’t rule him out as he looks the danger.
Cheltenham 1.50
I can see GINNY’S DESTINY bouncing back here. He was pulled up in the Paddy Power Gold Cup but didn’t look fit that day and the writing was on the wall quite early. He at least shaped better when third at Huntingdon and the runner-up Protektorat has franked that form since. Back in a handicap here he should be a danger to all.
Imperial Saint has taken well to fences winning 3 of his last 4 and with more to come could easily be the one to give the selection most to think about.
Doncaster 2.05
The likeable MA SHANTOU hasn’t looked back since bumping into Celtic Dino on hurdles debut. He has won his last two and impressed at Windsor firmly on top at the line. He has more to come especially up to 3 miles and he is worth keeping on side.
Western Knight was denied the hat-trick at Cheltenham last month but still has potential to do better so could be the danger. Jig’s Forge is also promising so is feared too.
Cheltenham 2.25
I’m fully expecting L’HOMME PRESSE to win this. He ran a huge race to finish third in the King George last month and that is the best piece of form on offer. Couple that with his impressive Cheltenham record and the ground being perfect and he deserves to be a warm order. The last time he was at this track it was when he finishing fourth in the Gold Cup so his form is rock solid.
Gentlemansgame is the only conceivable danger in my book after finishing third to Galopin Des Champs at Leopardstown last month. He is still lightly raced so will try and make a fight of it. The rest look up against it.
Doncaster 2.40
After struggling at Cheltenham WYENOT was right back on track winning readily over C&D 6 weeks ago. She jumped notably well on that occasion and if in the same form it would be no surprise to see her follow up against these. I expect her to go forward and she should be hard to catch again.
Kateira impressed winning well at Kempton before finishing fifth behind Crambo at Ascot and looks the obvious danger off the back of that but she is quite a short price.
Cheltenham 3.00
I can’t wait to see CONSTITUTION HILL again. He defied a year layoff to beat Lossiemouth at Kempton on Boxing Day and is entitled to come on plenty for that run. Sadly she has been withdrawn now so he should have no problem seeing this field off. I actually think there is a bit of value in the overs market (to win by over 10 lengths) as he should be in a different league to them.
Brentford Hope has some good form to his name and despite finishing down the field at Windsor could bounce back and be the one to finish second. Spirits Bay was only third at Haydock last week and is hard to recommend (for second) but could be third best.
Doncaster 3.15
I can see THE CHANGING MAN running another big race. He hasn’t done much wrong since sent over fences and very nearly opened his account at Ascot last time. He went down just half a length to the progressive Victtorino and off just 2lb higher here should have a great chance again with Brendan Powell back in the saddle.
Forward Plan ran well when third at this track last month and looks the danger off the back of that. Snipe is another one who could get competitive.
Cheltenham 3.35
I have this between the top pair in the betting and CRAMBO is readily preferred. He showed a good attitude to win the Long Walk at Ascot last month and he is more unexposed than most in here. If he builds on that he will be tough to hold out in the closing stages.
Strong Leader has had a wind op since blowing out at Ascot and if bouncing back could be a big danger. If they go too hard Transmission might be value to hit the frame.
