Kelso 1.10
I know Real Stone was impressive at Wetherby when last seen but he has never backed up a performance in the past and I much prefer HELNWEIN for Alan King. He is better than what we’ve seen recently and having undergone wind surgery could get back on the up against these.
Of the rest Netywell is likeable and has been dropped 3lb since Haydock so might surprise a few and put up the most resistance.
Newbury 1.20
It is probably worth focusing on the younger horses in this veterans event and one of those is GRANDADS COTTAGE for Olly Murphy. The way he won at Carlisle was impressive and if he can get back to that sort of form he will have a massive chance at a double-figure price.
Credo impressed beating Gustavian at Exeter and if in the same form despite the rise could be the biggest danger.
Kelso 1.45
After running such a big race in the Betfair Chase perhaps it was no surprise to see GREY DAWNING pulled up in the King George. He remains a horse with a lot of potential and I expect him to get firmly back on track here before perhaps heading to Aintree.
Iroko took a step back in the right direction when fourth at Cheltenham last month and looks the obvious threat.
Doncaster 2.05
This should be a good opportunity for WORLD OF FORTUNES to get herself back in the winners enclosure. She won her first 3 starts over hurdles and has been highly tried the last twice. She wasn’t disgraced behind Final Demand at Leopardstown last time and should give these weight and a beating.
Miss Cynthia impressed winning at Market Rasen but did look a bit lucky to win that having got first run. This is definitely tougher.
Kelso 2.20
The hat-trick looks on the cards for the progressive ACE OF SPADES here. He looked beat before rallying bravely to win at Cheltenham and then was much smoother winning here last time. He should keep improving for a while yet and is one to keep on side.
Mr Bramley has won 2 of his last 3 and is likeable but Bowling Buddy has let that Wetherby form down since. Could still be the danger.
Doncaster 2.40
This track suited PETIT TONNERRE much better than Newbury and he readily reversed form with General Medrano. His form when second to Imperial Saint earlier in the season looks decent and a 5lb rise might not be enough to stop him following up against these.
Rare Edition has been freshened up and has had a wind op since disappointing at Ascot so could bounce back with a big run.
Kelso 2.55
With trainer Ben Pauling going so well at the moment VANDERPOEL could take a lot of beating here. This unexposed 6yo made a winning start over hurdles at Huntingdon and then followed up impressively at Ludlow. That form has been franked since and he looks a nice horse for connections.
Castle Carrock won a bumper in good style and then impressed turning over Diva Luna on hurdles debut at Sandown so is the danger.
Doncaster 3.15
This is probably the toughest race of the day so it won’t surprise you that I’ve taken a chance on THE KNIPHAND at a double-figure price. He gets in at the bottom of the weights and while he needs to better that Uttoxeter run I’m confident he can with the yard going great guns too.
Some Scope will be ridden quietly and could be the danger if bouncing back from that Cheltenham run where he was pulled up.
Kelso 3.30
Emmet Mullins always has to be feared on these shores so expect Vischio to be popular but I do think TELLHERTHENAME could be better value. He is very much unexposed and was last seen finishing fourth behind Sir Gino in the Fighting Fifth. He has potential now handicapping and can run a big race.
Cracking Rhapsody won the race last year and loves it here so shouldn’t be underestimated and could be bang there once again.
Newbury 3.45
I can see Jagwar running a big race at the Cheltenham Festival next month so I’m hoping BILLYTHEREALBIGRED franks that recent form and wins this. He was only beaten a couple of lengths and ran a big race in defeat. He is still just a 5yo and could easily improve again.
Kandoo Kid impressed beating Broadway Boy at Newbury and looks the danger on that form. At a bigger price Saint Segal could get competitive too.
