Sandown 1.50
A fiercely competitive opener to kick off ITV on Saturday and BELLIANO could take a bit of beating for Paul Nicholls. This 6yo bumped into The New Lion on hurdles debut and has won both starts since. He has more to come and the yard often target a good one at this.
Meetmebythesea beat The Kemble Brewery at Ludlow and that looks good form so he is the biggest danger.
Hereford 2.05
I’m surprised WESTERN GENERAL has drifted out to 5/2 as he looks clearly the one to beat. He impressed slamming rivals at Wincanton and despite the rise in the weights should have a great chance to follow up with the clock backing up that visual performance.
Hypotenus ran well behind Xcitations at Sandown last month and this sharper track could see him threaten most here.
Sandown 2.25
The Imperial Cup is always a tricky puzzle to solve but it wouldn’t surprise me if LUMP SUM went close off top-weight. He bumped into Joyeuse at Newbury last month and before that ran behind Constitution Hill. This is easier and I expect him to go close.
Bo Zenith has proved a bit frustrating but he gets his ground again and could still have a bigger performance in him.
Wolverhampton 2.45
I can’t help but feel GREAT CHIEFTAIN is being overlooked here at 7/1. He has won 3 of his last 4 and is only 3lb higher here on return. He looks the type to do better as a 4yo and I can see him being bang there so definitely looks a bit overpriced.
Kingdom Come loves the AW and won this race last year so looks one of the dangers. Local Hero is another one who could get involved.
Sandown 3.00
I never usually have an overly strong opinion on bumpers but Nathaniel mare CHARISMA CAT should prove a cut above here. She was unlucky to get beat at Market Rasen and is expected to get back on track against these. The money is coming and it could be ‘gamble landed’.
Supreme Malinas didn’t run badly at Windsor and could be capable of running well in this so looks the danger.
Wolverhampton 3.20
Another open race and a tentative vote goes to AL SHABAB STORM for Marco Botti. He obviously needs to bounce back from that disappointing run at Doncaster but his form before that was decent and given plenty of time and with his new yard he should go close.
Jabaara is likely to go off favourite but I think is beatable. Royal Zabeel might be a bigger danger at quite a nice price.
Sandown 3.35
Back at Sandown this looks a great chance for HOE JOLY SMOKE to get back on track. He impressed winning readily here back in December and had excuses when running a bit flat at Newbury last time. He remains unexposed and is definitely worth another chance.
Dreaming Blue bumped into O’connell when last seen and that is decent form so he looks the biggest danger if building on that again.
