Sandown 1.50
I can’t ignore that recent C&D win from CLASSIC ANTHEM and if he matches that sort of form he should be a big player here under the in-form Sean Bowen. He is still lightly raced over fences so with more to come should run a big race.
The other one I like from an each way perspective is INSURRECTION for Paul Nicholls. This horse won easily at Musselburgh and is better than he showed at Cheltenham. The main danger could be Eyed who has been ultra consistent this season.
Leicester 2.05
The way COMPLETELY RANDOM hit the line to win at Southwell last time was pretty impressive. He has some good form on turf so stepping back up to 6f I think he’ll have a huge chance of following up against these. He is lightly raced so shouldn’t be underestimated.
Trilby has won 2 of his last 4 now and impressed justifying strong support at Beverley so could be the danger. Billyjoh needs the gaps but is another one who could run better than his price suggests at least. Havana Pusey is also respected.
Sandown 2.25
This is a pivotal race for Willie Mullins in the trainers’ championship with nearly £50K up for grabs. It is hard to look past GAELIC WARRIOR as he was impressive beating Grey Dawning at Aintree and quite simply if in the same form should follow up against these.
Pic D’orhy shouldn’t be ignored as if he gets into a nice rhythm over these fences he could run well. I do feel Gentleman De Mee might be the one to put up the most resistance though and it could even end up being a 1-2 for Mullins which would be a nightmare for Skelton.
Haydock 2.40
I’ve decided to take a bit of a flyer on SKUKUZA here for Ed Dunlop. This Blue Point colt is suited by quick ground and he looked progressive when last seen. That run behind Mickley at Royal Ascot was decent and as long as he doesn’t need the run he’ll go close.
English Oak is plenty talented and remains fairly lightly raced so could be a danger to all on his return for Ed Walker. Myal down the bottom of the weights is another one who could step forward and prove dangerous as well.
Sandown 3.00
I know the market has been a little uneasy but I’m still confident KITZBUHEL is the one to beat for Mullins. The yard won this last year with Impaire Et Passe and this 5yo was just too keen when only fifth at Aintree. He is better than that and will take a lot of beating.
The danger is Lucky Place as the betting suggests. He impressed winning at Ascot and Cheltenham and then is better than he showed in the Stayers behind Bob Olinger. Take No Chances is also respected for Dan and Harry Skelton.
Sandown 3.35
With nearly £100K on the line Dan Skelton will be hoping Nicky Henderson wins this with JONBON and it would take a brave man to oppose. He was back to winning ways at Aintree following that Cheltenham blip and should defend his crown.
Il Etait Temps hasn’t been seen for nearly a year and could be the danger if ready to fire. Energumene is likely to run his race as well and should get competitive but hard to see him reversing form with the favourite.
Sandown 4.10
I thought that was a big run from RESPLENDENT GREY behind Haiti Couleurs at Cheltenham. The latter has obviously franked that form since and with first-time cheekpieces applied now he could find the necessary improvement required to win this.
Plenty of dangers in a good race like this with plenty of prize money on offer and probably headed by the favourite High Class Hero. If he stays the trip he will be dangerous. Minella Cocooner is another one to note.
Sandown 4.45
I had a feeling MOSTLY SUNNY was going to be turned out quickly following that impressive Plumpton win. He really sprinted away from them and didn’t look like he had much of a race. He has a penalty here but if in that form again will be a danger to all.
Ike Sport ran well when fifth behind Wellington Arch at Aintree and that is decent form. A repeat of that would have him in the mix here despite a 4lb rise. Bunting will also be primed and is another one that could prove dangerous.
